Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
The doc , Reply # 32 nails it for me, see we figured out we were in the same family tree long ago.
If legally I couldn't drink I would smoke 3 packs / day. If I was legal to drink, no smoking for me.
3rd tradition in AA always was great to. Went for years fucked up on dry chemicals and claimed sobriety. It wasn't until I figured it was all about how I rolled behind closed doors. Freakin' pathetic looking in the mirror.
For me I have to put everything in check. I average a cigarette every other day now, and i feel I have relapsed but believe me i don't beat myself up over it. Bigger fish to fry. Just have a lil more tweekin to do that might take 20+ years,,lmao/
Don't get me wrong , I'm not suggesting tobacco change sobriety dates, but I am suggesting that some levels of sobriety cannot be reached while your an addictive drug addict . Or while you over eat to the point of addiction and bodily damage like me. My anxiety is doing much better and is largely based on feelings of over responsibility, not especially a mortality thing.
And BTW, you don't have to walk on eggshells here.
I pray that none of your kids ever pick up a cigarette, I'm afraid you might just shoot them....
You're preachin to the choir my man. I don't know a smoker who doesn't know everything terrible there is to know about smoking but just as you can't make an alcoholic quit drinking, you can't make a smoker stop smoking...... unless they want to stop.....
I still love you though. :)
I now have an appointment for biofeedback to quit.
She also offers Hypnotism (which works on me) if this doesn't do it.
I have wanted to quit....and had never tried Bio so sounds great to me to try something new for me. Only 40 bucks too...soo I can do it.
Thx again...whole thread motivated me
Peace and reaches for the tobacco.
Mine is really true
(do you have the saying goody, goody in the US??)
Instead of a group of aa'ers smoking in the parking lot, they'd be tokin in the parking lot.
On a daily basis the notion that your cigarette could contribute to the loss of your life just has got to mean something.
As an confessed alcoholic the notion that my drink could contribute to the loss of my life, that has to mean something.
I will have my full pot of coffee every morning until I die, I rarely say a word and enjoy my news weather time, roll through my computer for about 15 minutes, " these addictions will not kill me"
My favorite story about that was told by my great-aunt. She was having her routine checkup when her doctor said, "Mrs. Brady! You're smoking again!"
"I know," she said.
"But I've told you, Mrs. Brady, if you smoke, you're going to die."
"But doctor," she protested, "I'm 93."
