Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Today is my one year of sobriety. I've waiting a long time for this day. I remember the early days and feeling like I would never make it. But I did. It's a bittersweet day though. A year ago my uncle brought me to my first meeting. I was at my lowest point in life. He saved me. He had been through many addictions and was the only one who could relate and knew how to help. I was on the verge of losing my marriage,my kids, everything. He helped me avoid that just in time. I wanted him to be here with me for my year chip..but he sadly passed away last month. It was unexpected and a huge blow to our family. It tested me a lot. But I'm here at AA right now for my chip. Not only for me,but to honor my uncle and what he did for my life.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

You can continue to honor your uncle by passing on what he gave to you - the message and hope of AA. Congrats on 1 year!
I also want to say congratulations on one year of sobriety!!! That is a huge accomplishment. Keep it going...
his unexpected passing is a lesson in that time is fleeting and unknown
enjoy the moments you have
you've had a year sober
a year to see the preciousness of life, joy, & sadness with a clear head
congratulations on choosing to do

Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary! Keep up the good work!
God Bless!
In our upside-down world, sometimes the biggest adversity and challenges are really gifts, of a sort. 11 months ago you probably thought 1 year was WAY TOO FAR for you to have much capacity to reach - here you are rockin it. Eventually, the things that you now miss about him, and his absence, will become things that bring his memory closer.
You need to, obviously, keep it real and keep going a day at a time; but at one year maybe you can be "my uncle" for someone else who needs that support and confidence to extricate themselves from a desperate place.
Congratulations!
I'm lucky to have the person in my life who is lending a strong helping hand; a proud AA member who is supportive of me. I wish everyone could have that magic ingredient, whatever it is, to succeed in conquering alcohol abuse. The desire has to be within yourself; but that extra help makes a world of difference.
Thanks for your post.
