Curious to know if you guys like to "hide" your condition if you can from strangers/new aquaintances. I am currently in college and I sort of pretend like its not there when I meet someone new. When I meet someone and they say something like, "you ok?" (noticing my gait) I just kinda say "yea, I'm good" cuz I never really knew how to deal with the elephant in the room so-to-speak.
What do you guys do if you understand what I'm talking about?

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

So voc rehab finally got in touch with me...it took like six months finally. The voc rehab person that they assigned to me is a lawyer and extremely knowledgable on disability law and he seems to know a great deal about how to get people placed in jobs and how to make their resumes pass ATS. I was really surprised at how articulate and energetic he is. I guess my question is how much I...

I don't say anything about may ataxia unless it's one-on-one
I feelu uncomfortable telling a whole group of people, cuz if I do it feels like im trying to get pple to feel soory for me.....and I son't want that........so I feel more comfortable one-on-one
Most people are very accepting.
I did have an advisor in college that was a cp specialist and she told me that according to ADA I did not have to disclose my cp to any employer. I didn't until last year when 2 coworkers were giving me a hard time...I had to stand up for myself b/c since I have mild cp, people can't really put their finger on what is "wrong/different" about me, so they label me lazy and I didn't want that, so I went to the boss first. I like to be proactive--I don't go looking for sympathy or special treatment, but I know what is safe for me to do and lifting heavy was not safe. Boss was nice and had some knowledge of cp as well, so that helped.
As I have gotten older, I"m more aware of my physical limitations. My parents seem to have forgotten a little bit so I feel strange reminding them of little stuff like Mom bought me a laundry detergent bottle that was too heavy. Independence is really important to me and I will speak up if I can make something easier. I figure we cp-ers have to work really hard at everything we do ( I transferred a soda can from hand to hand and weaker hand didn't grab...very big mess) little stuff and anything I can make easier, I will. My friends know what's up and they don't make a big deal out of helping me...I have a friend who arranged for my food to be brought to me already cut up at my wedding. That was very nice, and she took care of it without making me feel like she was feeling sorry for me--I kept my dignity and got help at the same time and that is how I choose who to tell.
