Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Support Group
Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), also known as acute myeloid leukemia, is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. Patients with AML usually present with symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, infection, prompting medical attention. An abnormal blood test reading will then result in further testing in a hospital with a hematologist to determine AML.

Just to update you, Mum is doing really well... she is walking again, all be it with a walker but its improving all the time.
When she came home, she was only able to walk say 10 meters assisted, now she spends more time out of the wheelchair than in it. She was in it Sunday night and only really used it today as she had her monthly checkup.

The platelets they are not worried they say its just normal to be low and slow, she has one week they may be up to 109 (highest they have been) then they go down and then then go up, they did show mum her chart and its like a big wave... last fortnight they were 86 so its on the up wave again.
That stupid (but important ) Cyclosporine she is being weened off, reduced again today and then again in 2 weeks... Can not wait as we all think this is the source of the non-walking problem (each time it has reduced she has improved).
Anyway all is good, she feels great and learning to live with a slight disability at the moment, is better than other outcomes :)

I already put down my foot on him eating any of the food at the party as it will be pizza from a pizza shop and trust me I will keep both eyes on him.

It's funny that you brought up the pizza thing. Here's what my doctor told me. I COULD have pizza from outside BUT the pizza could not be sliced in the store, but rather at home. I am not kidding, and I followed her instructions. You will find tremendous variation in the types of diet restrictions imposed by the physicians. I would definitely keep Jeremy away from uncooked vegetables and fruits (except oranges and bananas). Don't deprive him of the unsliced pizza. He will relish the normalcy of eating something that he likes. Put anchovies on my slices.

I spoke with Laarissa this afternoon as she was on her way to get temporary home after being discharged. She said to tell everyone thank you for your prayers. She had"rounded the corner" and is feeling much better. She will be staying at a friend's house for the next two to three months as she lives too far from the Huntsman center. The plan now is for her to visit the hospital twice per week.

Tonys Update- Wednesdays clinic visit was exhausting. The team saw Tonys rash, which under clinic Florescent lights was very visible, bumpy, red and angry looking. The entire team thought gvhd, sent him directly to Derm, the doc thought gvhd also so took 2 biopsies. He also had his 100ish day bone marrow (actually day 83) too so was quite the lab rat with multiple holes punched- poor guy.
Both biopsies came back today aroubd 6 pm. Prelim bone marrow morphology looks great, w all 3 hemeotopetic lineages looking good still waiting on chimerism and cytogenetics though

Skin biopsy came back (Derm path) inconclusive - possible drug rash, but Derm doc still thinks early gvhd -
They rx him a light steroid cream but the rash started going down thurs morning before I even applied the cream, and much better by tonight after applying - so I guess we will see...

Jeremy goes to the doctor today for the last three weeks all of his numbers have been in the low normal and if his blood numbers are still consistent they are releasing him to return home to Reno. He will return weekly to see the doctor and have his blood work done in Reno. He is hoping that the doctor will also allow him to return to work.
