Starting to Panic over Surgery

I have shoulder surgery next Thursday and I am really anxious.  I had a meeting with the scheduling nurse about three weeks ago but have not heard back from them (called three times in the past to weeks).  Now, I have had bad surgical outcomes and surgeries in the military (imagine that) and as such, I have a LOT of anxiety over this surgery.  I have not been told to do blood work, or a covid test and I want to meet with the anesthesia team.  I woke up in my surgeries in the past (yeah military medicine) and I would rather not wake up again (they were working on my heart at the time... that was fun).  Also, I don't think they know I am on 11 separate drugs (two for anxiety) and how these might interact with the surgery or the anesthesia.

I am very anxious about this and have been dwelling on this a lot.  I need the doctor's office to give me the info.

I included a pix of one of my heart surgeries before they cut into me.  6d28c0f564556a1de82200f96e688d1c6414f85e.png

Muji - Thanks. I have so many questions and my anxiety has been going up each day. At night I am a wreck over this. It is not good for my brain to have too much free time on its hands. It always seeks out the dark and I imagine and dream the worst of an impending event. I called again today and left a message. I am thinking that I can't see myself undergoing surgery from this doc. This for me is a major event. I need someone to answer my questions, I wrote them all down, and reduce my anxiety over having this done to me. I really need help on this anxiety it is only going to get worse.

Two bright notes, I talk with my PDoc tomorrow, and ECT is on monday. I always feel better after ECT and I feel good for about three weeks. I will talk with the PDoc about the anxiety but there is little that he can do. I do need to make up an agenda for that meeting.

Basically, I am freaking out a little during the day and close to panic attack at night over this surgery next Thursday. I have no way to make this better.

Thor, I agree with Muji. If you are too anxious and not ready, post phoning the surgery is an option. If you can’t reach your Pdoc how about your therapist? It’s concerning that you have not been prepared or contacted by your doctors office.. is the surgeons office local where you can drop in. It could be just a mix-up. We’re here for you Thor.
