I'm in a bit of a pickle

I've been journaling about my frustrations with my psychiatrist and how he's canceling appts with me all the time and how that stresses me the frick out. At my PCP appt yesterday I stopped by the mental health floor and ask about switching providers and the women I spoke with said that if i do my appt with him next week will be canceled and the psychiatrist i would be switching to is really hard to get an appt with.  The new psych doesn't have any appts untill june or july (I don't remember which due to my mind being elsewhere).  I really need to see somebody, the mania is stilll pretty bad at times. At the moment, I'm fairly calm, but the other night when I as cooking dinner I was singing and dancing and being crazy. The thing is I'm not a dancer at all and it's something I really don't do, so my family was laughing at me.

So I either have a Dr who's not reliable or one I have to wait months to see when I really need him.

Could you perhaps get your mania under control and then ask for a new referral knowing it will take a couple of months to see your new doc?

If there is ever an emergency you just go to emerg .. I'm presently waiting for a new referral to a pdoc as well.... Big hug sweetie... xo

Could you find a psychologist instead of changing your psychiatrist? Psychologists can be great support and if something needs addressing the psychologist could call the psychiatrist.

Some psychiatrists don’t like doing psychotherapy. But the main focus for a psychologist is psychotherapy.

Have you considered a psychiatrist outside of that facility? When I was rapid cycling, I located a psychiatrist a couple of hours away who was able to see me months sooner than my local doctors. She ended up being totally worth the drive and remained my doctor for three years.

If you don't want to look elsewhere, then it may be the best to keep next week's appointment and switch to the other provider afterward. There's always a chance that your doctor won't cancel.

Side note: It sounds like your PCP and psychiatrist may be part of the same health system. In my area, these health systems always provide a patient advocate or other administrator who handles concerns. If your system has one, maybe he/she could help?

I'm praying for you. Hugs.
