I lost my cat - my best friend
I had to put my cat to sleep at 4 am this morning at an emergency vet clinic. I am numb and can’t quit crying. I know it sounds silly to say a cat was my best friend but he was. I don’t have any close friends or family where I am. When I got divorced 20 years ago I got a cat to keep me company and have something to come home to. When Sam was 5 I got Max to keep him company. When I lost Sam to cancer Max was there to help me through it. We were best buddies for the last 10 years. He has been with me through so much. When my relationship broke up due to my partner cheating on me, Max was on my lap for months while I cried and tried to make sense of my life. Now he’s gone and I’m so lost. I know I did the right thing, he was suffering and he is in a better place with Sam but now I’m alone and it’s Easter Sunday and I know that I will hurt for a long time until the pain starts to fade. I will spend today cleaning up his things around the house and cry. I know a lot of people will say “get another cat or get a dog”. But people who’s pets are family will understand you can’t do it right away. Maybe I will later but right now I just can’t think of it. I used this site when my relationship broke up and it really helped get me through that. I didn’t think I’d need the comfort so soon and be so sad again.

My friend, hugs. I know what you are going through. I got a cat when I was going through the divorce from hell. Now Mrs Evil Cat Mocha is 10. She is my best friend and companion. They give unconditional love and acceptance. As for getting another cat, take your time. Be gentle with yourself.
I’m so sorry to learn of Max’s passing. I do totally understand how you’re feeling right now. Please know that you have many friends on here that care about you. Hugs.
Sorry for your loss. Pets are so loyal and they don’t break up with us and cheat. Since my ex left I’ve lost both my dogs (11 and 15 yrs old) and my cat was just diagnosed with blindness (18)..shes the last of the 3 musketeers and it’s so sad, they all were my “support group” in the early days. Please be happy you gave Max a wonderful life and he will be there for you again at the Rainbow Bridge. Maybe he’s playing with my pups right now. Grieve his loss and then maybe think about adopting another kitty that needs a loving home. My daughter still lives with me and after our first dog passed I adopted a shih tzu for her that’s been a loving companion for both of us and actually comforts the cat. Pets are awesome, they’re here for a short while but give us their whole life. Take care and please try and have a Happy Easter knowing Max is resting comfortably and is no longer in pain. Take care
Thank you all so much! I’m thanking God for the time we had together and I know the pain it from the loss of a wonderful companionship but it’s going to be a rough time. Thank you for your support.
I’m so sorry. I absolutely can see how horrible that would be. My cat was there for me too!
