Women who Love too Much Community Group
WHEN BEING IN LOVE, MEANS BEING IN PAIN... This group is to help women through the journey of realizing they can love themselves. To help realize that they are capable of having a happy, healthy, whole relationship and break the cycle of abuse and heartache from loving emotionally unavailable men.

Hello,
The guy that lives around the corner told me that he was interested in me what followed was a phone conversation, a couple of text, and talk on my porch in the middle of the night. What he did do for me is make me come running back to the group and reread the Book.
He smokes weed daily-all day long. He does not work, he sells weed. He is raising his son alone or rather with the older lady that he lives with. I am slightly attracted to him physically but none whatsoever in other areas. What happened was that night on the porch I wanted him to want me. I tried to keep the conversation going, I tried to be interesting, likeable. What I realized was that I had no healed and that a year off did not change my patterns.
My interaction with him scared me. He said he was not happy in his relationship. He was looking for a good woman, he was ready to settle down. He keeps saying "i want to see you" but would never make a plan. He really wanted to come in my house- cheap, easy. Knowing all of this why did I even entertain the thought. He was as unavailable as the married guy from the gym that I try to avoid- while trying to keep his attention.
Since that meeting on my porch he has not attempted to contact me at all- and then last night at 11:30 he texted me- I was asleep. I woke up this morning looked at my phone and immediately I started to text him and say " Im sorry I missed your text last night, I was asleep. Good morning." Then my mind started to do what it always does and that is validate his absence or lack of interest. Maybe I said something wrong, maybe he thought I didn't like him. Oh, let me not forget to mention that the most of our conversation were about him saying my car is always home and I must never go anywhere or do anything. I kept trying to explain to him what I do and who I am but he would not hear it. I felt like he was putting me down and he kept saying oh, no I mean it in a nice way. It felt like a put down and he would not validate my experience- that is not a new pattern that I have with men.
I didn't text him back nor do I intend to. I don't have to delete his number or block him. I have to choose. I prayed and asked God for help and I told God that if he puts up a good effort I don't know that I will be able to not do it. Because at first I was telling myself I can just hang out with him and not want him. I have told myself that lie countless times. I cant just hang out, I cant just talk on the phone. I eventually start wanting them to want me, I start making their every move and behavior about me and my worth. Then I asked myself do you even want him and the answer is no but hell the answer really always has been no with most of the men I have ever dated. Despite everything I know I must be honest that if he calls during the day or comes by my home I am not sure I would turn him away. It took about a week before I stopped watching my phone like a hawk and even now when I go outside I still look to see if his car is home.
I can already see how he would give me crumbs, pop in and out of my life when it was convenient for him. I can hear the empty promises, I can feel the disappointment, I can feel the obsession, the wanting and waiting. Others would look at him and wonder how any woman could see him differently than he is. They don't have WWT2M eyes. In my eyes the woman he is staying with is not an obstacle- she barely exists in my mind. The little boy I would help raise. I could help him stop smoking weed- find him a job. Teach him how to be open, counsel him into being what I really want. I could ride off this fantasy for years all the while suffering in the relationship. Knowing all this I still struggled not to respond to his text.
I know that on a bad emotional day for me I will be tempted to call him. I know that I am avoiding my own pain, I know that this really is not about him but really about my own struggle with a life long pattern of trying to fix childhood trauma. I know that my caretaking is really about feeling safe and attempting not to be abandoned. But I also know that right now my no's are weak. My resolve to not do it again is paper thin. I wont make fake promises to you guys or too myself. He is not a strong temptation what the temptation is the avoidance, the fantasy, the "what if this is the real one" it is the what if no one ever comes, what if he is it. It is the fear of being alone, the fear of not being loved or lovable, accepted or validated. It is the desire to avoid the childhood feeling of being cast out, thrown away, of dying from a lack of love and care. That fear is still so strong in me that I cannot blame myself for trying to fix it by any means necessary. I am praying not that he loves me, not that he accepts me, not that this be the "one." My prayer today and it will be all day- that God cover and protect me from my own disease. I am not strong enough yet not to do it so just take him away. Let me miss every phone call, let me sleep through every text message. Change my mind and help to ease my own terror. I told God the truth. I cant do it by myself I need His help.

Most of my life I have been praying and asking God to make this man or that man love me and accept me. I have felt so unworthy of love that I believed that the only way to have it was by divine intervention. But I am not praying that prayer today. I want so badly to be different, to feel differently about myself, but I have to accept where I am today. There is no recovery check list, no set guidelines for how this thing will work with absolute success. It really is a journey that you share with others but walk alone. None can do it for me, no one can promise me that I will be okay at the end.
You also are stronger than you once were and you are recognizing the signs of this man. You've been down this path, we all have. Do you really want that in your life, again? You deserve so much more, be strong, one day a guy will pop into your life that is good, kind, HEALTHY and willing to give you the moon and stars. Please think about all that you've learned on your journey, is the temptation of him really worth going back into your dark place??? You know I'm not judging you, I get it, I really do. If my ex were to pop back into my life I'd probably go with him, even after all the sh** and pain he put me through. Men like that have something that we are attracted to.......................Just be careful in what you decide. Remember, what you do today, affects your tomorrow. And keep praying, God will be there with you. Listen to your gut and head, not your heart on this one. Hugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All you can do, I think, is continue to be aware... Because what you're talking about is changing a deeply rooted lifetime pattern and that kind of change doesn't happen overnight. And backsliding unfortunately seems just part of the deal. That type of change also requires enormous non-judgmental support. Reaching out here is a good place to start. What about closer to home? Friends, family, co-d group?
This guy's behaviour and what you've noticed about his personality, all of it SHOULD be a turn-off. You're right that your real motives are more about wanting to be wanted. But yeah, I see the danger -- you're totally vulnerable right now. I hope you DO miss every phonecall and text. Can you turn the text-sound off for his number? Or even block his calls?
Thanks for responding yougo. You are right and I fully understand what you are saying. That pain is hell, isn't it? The waiting for the phone, waiting for the visit making it all about me when really it is who he is. The only thing I can do right now is be still. I wont move, I wont act on it and for me that it growth. There was a time when the desire to call a man was so strong I could hardly stand it. I would think about calling or not calling for hours and the desire would be so strong I would get antsy. I don't feel like that today. But I am not fooling myself for one moment to think that I can do this thing alone. I have tried that, I need God's help big time.
So, we all know there is no happily ever after when it's just a one way relationship. Am I sorry I did that, no, I wanted him to know my feelings, did I expect his reaction, yes, nothing new there. Did I hope he would swoop me up and carry me off into the sunset, yes. Will it ever happen no. I've learned the hard way to not expect anything from him, that way my little heart is protected and I'm no longer disappointed. It's hard to move on and let go. I hope you can take our thoughts and words with you when the temptation to go to him gets strong. Learn from your past, learn from our past. We share a common bond, loving too much. We only hurt ourselves.
Thanks for responding. I have to think that even this (you and yougo responding so quickly) is a little intervention from God. Support closer to home-unfortunately I have surrounded myself with WWLTM as support and most of them are not even thinking about recovery. But I created that beast as well. Aside from this group and prayer- Im solo. I do workout a lot and that really helps. I cant think when I am trying to run. You know what is weird when I started writing this post I thought about you and Sugar Man. I am really vulnerable right now and I fully admit that. I really should block his number. I can send all his calls to voice mail not sure how to block text messages though. I will admit that I am resistant to doing it but I will do what will help me the most in this process and that is to block the text messages as well. I don't think he will come to my house- seeing as how he lives with a woman and all.
It sounds so full of bullshit doesn't it. Hopefully, there will be a day when I am not tempted or attracted to a guy who smokes weed daily. But he really is just a distraction the real issue is my own pattern that is what I am really struggling with. I have to make this about me and not him because that is where the real healing is. Whether I can avoid him really is not the issue. I have avoided men for a year and I am still dealing with my own issues. Real progress for me will not be about the men in my life but rather about how I interact and feel about myself while I am interacting with men and others. Right now, I still feel really shitty about myself. All I can do is self-care and push push push.
Thanks for responding. You are not alone in that daily swim please believe me. And you are right it does help to know that there are other women out here who are struggling as well. It feels good to tell the truth about yourself and what you going through and to have someone say "yes, I understand." I understand, trust me I do.
I finally had to make myself some goals to not do that. I set a date that I won't reach out until this particular date. So right now, my date is July 1st. Any time I am tempted to break no contact, I remember the date and it may sound silly but it has really helped me stay strong. When the date comes I stop and think, do I really need to talk to him, do I really need to see him? And usually I don't so I reset my goal. When July 1st comes, I'm feeling pretty strong right now so I won't be contacting him. It feels good to have some control over this, as little as it is, it is a huge step for me!!!
Thanks for sharing that. I can fully relate to what it feels like to share your hopes and desires with a man and he respond in a way that is hopeless. I hate when I text a guy some long text and he responds by saying "k." The fantasy is a beast and I try really hard not to let it get the best of me. I am not tempted to call or respond to his text now. I plan to go work out, hard as I can, get in the pool and play with my son, and then come home and relax. And hopefully on one of those hard emotional days the Lord will protect me with a phone outage.
I am pretty sure that he thinks that I am a single woman who is lonely yet able to provide for myself so that he does not have to. I think focusing on the fact that what I am really doing is: avoiding my fears of being alone, avoiding my fears that I am not good enough- is what will help me to not act like he is a viable option for any serious relationship. Truthfully, I really understand that at this time in my life I am not emotionally available for a real relationship either.
He sucks. I know that. As long as I tell myself the truth I think I will be okay.
You know at one time, well really not to long ago, I was scared that everything I did was really just a distraction. But when you said "more weapons- more ways to replace unhealthier patterns with as wider variety of more gratifying, healthier ones. It resonated with me. Working out a is life safer for me and my son and I do go to the pool everyday. He works out with me because he wants to get in the pool afterwards. I love working out and going to the gym. So, I am going to focus on adding new activities that I enjoy. Instead of waiting for some guy to come along. When I had my little melt down this morning- I told myself when you go to the gym you are going to feel great just focus on that.
I am going to do what you suggested. More weapons, more options, that are not necessarily dependent on others. I am sitting here excited as hell believe me. Isnt that so weird how something so obvious can evade us for so long
