This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.

I am a person of routine. My life has been structured and orderly and follow-all-the-rules perfect. Until this morning...
Yesterday, I was in a snitty mood, so I came onto this board. Some of the posts made me laugh; some, cry. But, something changed today besides my mood. And, I think I can blame all of you.
I got out of bed, went out to get the newspaper, got my coffee but...instead of reading the paper immediately, I came onto the Board. Now, to you all, no major thing, right? This for a structured girl like me is a huge change. I was actually excited to come here and visit. I haven't even brushed my teeth yet, for crying out loud! (I have made the bed, however. Some things are just too ingrained. My mom would faint - she's in heaven, but if anyone could faint in heaven, my mom could - if she saw that I didn't make the bed.)
So, I'm starting to unfold into a new me. I'm thinking I've become a DS Widows/Widowers Group addict. (Is that a bad thing?) Next thing you know, I'll be leaving the newspaper in the driveway and giving up coffee (maybe it's time anyway, since I overheated the first cup this morning and burned my mouth - hate it when that happens) and eating (that might be a plus, since I could use a few less pounds) and driving all of you nuts ("Does this woman ever shut up?"; "Oh, no, not HER again!") and who knows what else?
Anyway, thank you all (I think!) for being here and giving me something to look forward to each day. I'm imaging the reaction from my family and friends if I tell them this: "Looking forward (with excitement?) to talking with people on a GRIEF website. Yup! We KNEW it! She's finally gone off around the bend!" But who cares? Not I. 'Cuz we all here know the real secret as to why we ARE all here, right?

If I have been away I LOOK FORWARD to coming home and getting in touch with my DS family.............go figure....
Yes at 14 months, I still need my DS family as they have given me a reason to smile each day since joining, yes I have shed many tears over sharing stories, feelings, emotions, trial and tribulations etc, but there has been more smiles in reaching out to those that understand us............ hugs

I'm with you about being addicted, big-time, to my computer connections. My email InBox has around 150 messages, and then I enjoy popping in a few times/daily to read the DS Discussions.
After I was caught still in my nightgown at 4 in the afternoon (totally lost track of time at the laptop), my family has started calling each mid- morning to ask, "Mom, are you dressed yet?"
The unexpected visitor who knocked on my door at 4 p.m. on July 4th was the kind, young Police Officer who responded to my 911 call last July 16, 2011, and gave me the sad news of my beloved husband's passing.
He has visited me several times since that day; he's my sons' age and his wife has kept in touch also...such a sweet family.
But before I answered the door on that hot day, I put on my winter coat, zipped up tight over my nightgown...Problem was, it was around 100 degrees outside! He looked very concerned when he asked "I needed to see how you're doing...are you managing okay in this heat?" (How often we hear "Be sure to check on the elderly")
I explained "why" I was dressed so strange in my winter overcoat (it was all the computer's fault)...and he smiled.
Anywho, Terry, if there is another group of "the widowed who are addicted to their computers", sign me up, please? Thanks...

I AM glad to be "old" sometimes (not many times, though). It's amazing how one can pull the elder card, huh? Your post cracks me up!!

Great job! You brought a smile and laugh to a lot of us today. I too need to be part of the "widows addicted to the computer and DS" group. Be sure to send me an invite!!! lol
My morning starts with DS. It's the last thing I do at night before bed. I check it on my lunch hour. After work. And... if I have a chance I take a peek while I'm at work.
This is the group that keeps me grounded. The family that understands. The friends who accept what I'm going through.
I'm so glad you're apart of this.
