He cooked Sunday breakfast every Sunday and bought the Sunday paper which we read together! I haven't cooked a Sunday breakfast since. Eating it alone is just to hard and it doesn't seem worth it to me. And I really miss those days!

He brought me coffee in bed everyday. But on Sunday's he also brought the New York Times. He would read aloud some interesting article or editorial. I cancelled the NYtimes subscription but they keep delivering it. I just pick it off the driveway and throw it into the recycling bin without a glance.

He would spray the weeds. I will not do this and used to get mad at him for doing it as I do not like the chemicals. He worked with many chemicals on his job site and It may have contributed to his Multiple Myeloma. I have a weed picker gizmo thingy. I may not be able to have a pristine yard and I really do not give a hoot if it has dandelions. They mow down very nicely.

I don't care if a bucket of water is ever drawn out from the bottom of the water heater again. I might take a hose to my car but have no interest in having it gloriously shiny (although cleaner than it is now would be a plus! - I'll probably run it through the car wash on occasion). I do have to get the trash outside, though, grumbling every time!

My husband was pretty meticulous when it came to our home. I see little things that I have to keep up with, or they will get away from me.

Richard left nothing undone, except one of his chores was putting the trash together to go out on the curb. I hate that job, but it is something I can't let go.

It's the little things...the toilet keeps trickeling...I need to clean under and behind the washer and dryer...there is a light fixture that needs putting up which he took down so he knows where it is wired to, you know one of those tricky ones...we were going to remove and replace a tree....OH the damn trash, I hate that job, there are ants on the handle...I don't know how to set the water sprinkler timer...He always unloaded the dishwasher for me, I loved that he did that, now the dishwasher is broke and I have put off getting a new one because of the installation..he would have done it. I was just the little things and I never realized how much they added up.

Most of my landscaping lights either burned out or I chopped the wires with the mower. Mike always took the time to find new bulbs and fix wires with electrical tape. I can't even figure out how to set the timer and since I messed with it, they go off during the day, so I unplugged the unit. I have no motivation to figure this out.

Oh, all the little and big things he did I miss so much! One of the things I miss the most is Taco night; on Fridays, he would fix tacos to celebrate the end of the work week. Since then I have fixed them a few times, but it is not the same. We used to take drives around two lakes near to us, and I have not done that at all since he passed. I figure, what's the point?

My husband always cleaned the vehicles on the weekend. Washed, sometimes waxed, cleaned the wheels and tires. And the big finish was stuff that made the tires shine like brand new. I have gone to the car wash a few times, but a little dirt on a car never bothered me.

Your stories are full of love and charm and...the sadness of loss. My husband did soooo many things that I'll have to start doing them! Even before he died, I boasted to my friends that I hadn't bought toilet paper, paper towels, dish liquid or laundry detergent in 7 years! My husband took care of it and we NEVER ran out! I had to buy my first toilet paper not long ago. Of course, I cried. He paid all the utility bills. After he died, I had to, or we'd be cut off. He took care of the garbage bags, juice drinks, soda and he did all the COSTCO shopping. He took care of all our needs. I'm so glad that I remembered to tell him thank you.

Well...where do I start? This year I had an attack of flying ants. I had just returned from a 12 hour day at work and the entire side of my house was covered by these freakin ants. Who knew? I took the hose out and sprayed like someone possessed. Then, let the dogs out for a pee and sprayed with wasp spray ( all I had at the time). Next day at 7pm...ants return. Good Grief. Ok,...boiled the kettle and dosed them and then put some bleach down. WTF. I am sure we had this happen before, but Mike took care of it and I never saw it or worried about it. Geez....add to that the oil and washer fluid in the car, the trimming of the bushes, cutting the grass, putting up the Christmas lights, killing bugs and lifting heavey things...shall I go on. Miss him, you bet!

I am sorry, but for me this question is comical. My husband didn't do anything -- I usually did just about everything. Yes, I could count on him to fix something or get someone to do it, but it was me who did just about everything. I do miss him when I come back with some groceries (limited to fruit and the sanitary essentials) and he's not waiting by the door to help me unload. Then he would empty the bags on the counter and go back to whatever else he was doing so that I could put them away. However, I miss all of his praises for what I did do! When he was healthy I always came home to breakfast after working all night. And he always took the trash can to the end of the drive on Wednesdays. And a thousand little things I took for granted. And I miss everyday.

He was in charge of the laundry. He used to do it every day. I do it now, and it really blows. I don't like it, but I will do it. Hugs~Shelley

He did so much outside and did almost all repairs. I either do it myself if I can or hire it out now. I hire out cutting the grass. A couple of things that come to mind are these. We have had cats for over 30 yrs. He always cleaned the litter box. Boy, was that hard getting used to doing, yuk. I have a greater appreciation for him doing that for so long. Taking out the garbage. We have very large waste management cans on wheels. I take it out most of the time but son will come over and do it if it's too heavy. My husband used to put up Christmas lights all over the front of the house and other places and lots of big decorations outside. That isn't being done anymore. I do put up a tree for my grandchildren but that's about it. It is amazing how many things he did I took for granted. Take care, Sandra
