We placed my Mom in an assisted living facility in April and Saturday we had to step that up to include hospice. I am from a family of 11 children. I have had much loss in my life, I lost my husband two months ago and yesterday 12.31.13. My brother had a massive heart attack at home and died instantly. Now I am having to assist my sister-in-law with planning my 58 year old brothers funeral. I am so not coping so well, I keep focusing on the fact that this is not about me, it is about getting my Mom, my sister-in-law, and nieces through this tragic ordeal. Mary, I'm so very sorry for your multiple challenges. Losing your spouse is enough to cause untold grief. Then to lose your brother, too. I can't imagine how hard this must be. Your sister-in-law will be able to use your love and understanding as she copes with her own loss. And your mother in Hospice is another great challenge. I've been through that, too. This may be the hardest time of your life, but it will slowly get better. You say you are not coping well, but you are writing and talking and that is saying a lot. The more you express yourself and your feelings, the better it will be. I will pray for you for comfort, healing, and direction in your life. You have your hands full and I send you all my sympathies. Hang on. It will not always be this painful. You have friends here who understand and care. May that comfort you!

My husband died 5 months ago. He was one of 11 children also. 2012 - 2103 our family had many loses, a BIl, niece, his sister, and brother and then my husband. What I found is that I can on help my in-laws so much. That is because I am grieving for my husband. So the next time that you feel that you are not coping, take a big breath and remember not to be so hard on yourself. What I found about a big family is that there is always someone to help. So you feel that you can not cope ask one of your siblings.
