What do you say to telemarketers at this time.

One just called, i pretended I was a family member told them I was not here and that my sister just lost her husband this is a bad time to call,
While I am on the do not call list it was the diabetes foundation.

I just was upset right at the moment, trying to get a hold on my emotions when it was a call from Virginia???? But I answered it - although I do not know anyone in VIriginia.....

If they ask for Roger I just say he died and I am still crying.

I answer, say yes after they tell me who they are and then just put the phone on the counter and walk away. It doesn't take long for them to realise I am no there...well, after their initial sales pitch anyway.

I appreciate the comment pathoflife, we shouldn`t probably tell them we are widows. I have done that in the past. I am polite but get off the phone as fast as I can. Lu Ann

@Scott I did it, said whatever I wanted just a few mins ago, I started talking about how my water pipe broke, we dug it up, it was gross around the pipe bla bla bla He could not get me to shut up altho' he tried to get me to talk about the FIrefighters assoc.
I did everything possible to not laugh but he hung up.

I have set the phone down, walked away but this one time I just answered the phone when upset it bugged me. Thanks for the suggestions that I shoulda done DUH

Another lesson learned from DS. Do not let the caller know that you are widowed, that your husband passed away. I haven't thought of that. Thanks.

Funny you bring this Topic up...our Widow support group
discussion was on this subject last week ....actually had us
laughing ......the gentlemen telling the story explained how
he gives them an earful about the loss of his wife ....

we had a motor home and I let the bank take it because I could not keep up the payments and I could not get it sold. they sold below the balance at auction plus tacked on about 1500 for towing etc. they called me to see how I was going to pay the balance still outstanding. I started crying, told them i was getting assistance just to live and there was no way I could pay the balance. at the end of the conversation, the woman was so sympathetic and said they will just have to write it off then. I wasn't lying. They could have approved another person taking over the payments, but refused to take my name off the account in doing this. I did not know the person nor he me. I am thinking he could go to mexico or canada and not make payments. he thought he would pay it off and i would claim it. Besides it would show as an asset for me and put me over income standards for assistance. banks should use a little common sense now and then.
