Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
It's almost as though we suddenly become invisible when we are widows/ widowers. Back at work today and 4 of us went to lunch - I asked each one how their Xmas / New Year was - I listened and commented on each of their stories and NOT ONE of them asked how my Xmas / New Year was!
I admit to loving greeting cards, I have a Hallmark membership. :)
I love buying and sending cards for all occasions.
This year I received a fraction of the Christmas cards that I used to get.
Do people think I don't want a card because my husband's gone?
I didn't hear from two of his friends at all.
I sent Christmas cards to everyone who was on last year's list. It makes me feel like I've been forgotten.
And one of my friends sent me a "thinking of you" card instead of a birthday card!
Yes, people disappear just when we need them the most.
Hugs,
Janie
It seems nearly all the newly-widowed experience the unexpected cut-off of contact from old friends. A few caring people realize that this is the time to stay in touch. A local grief support group is sometimes the answer to making new friends who understand.
