I took stock the other day and realized how lousy I'm eating now that I have no one to shop or cook for. For the first few weeks I couldn't eat at all.
Then, once a little appetite came back, I tried living on fruit and veggie juices. I made a good effort to be among people by going to the Y and a yoga class. And what did I get for that effort - ? - a partially torn ankle tendon! I've been limping around for a month now and got put in one of those boots last week.
But now to my point. I got discouraged. I've lost interest in food. Black coffee and oatmeal in the morning is my best qualifying meal. After that the rest of the day usually is rice cakes with peanut butter. Being an insulin dependant diabetic I force myself to have a bedtime snack or almond milk or a fruit gel-cup.
But my fridge/freezer isn't stocked with anything decent. When I go shopping I just think what would my husband like, and end up buying nothing. Have any of the rest of you gotten back to any kind of normalcy? If you did, how did you do it?

Today I feel grateful. Grateful for my dog Blue (Blue Jean Baby Queen, Prettiest girl I've ever seen). Grateful I'm still kickin'. Grateful I'm finally taking responsibility for my health. Grateful I own my home. Grateful for good friends and neighbors who watch over me. Grateful to God for His everlasting love and patience with me. Grateful I survived the 10 years since my wife of 30 years...

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

I finally started cooked again when my body started craving fruites & veggies. Before that time, food was only for survival ...
Grocery shopping was a bummer to say the least. I caught myself many times puting DH's favorites food or drinks in the basket, then I'd cry while putting them all back. I was also like yourself in thinking about what DH would like for dinner, but then I'd run to McDonald's for the kids. Arrgh!
Every step of the way without our spouse takes time. The so-called new life.is filled with change & adjustments -
As it is, its good that you are maintaining a regular breakfast meal & taking care of your diabetes to the best of your ability
Take care ~
..this weekend is the worlds largest Teapot festival.. my grandkids are going to be in band, and playing the sports for it. So I know, junkfood is coming , bbq, corndogs, funnel cakes, my kids are the worse at it, this won't make a difference, that won't hurt. I can't get them to understand, its my health. I think they are trying to kill me, so they don't have to bother with me anymore...lol
I finally did buy some things, just because the fridge is running with hardly anything in it. lol
That evolved, over time though. I realized that my husband and I had been eating a lot of processed food and even though it sounded healthy, it wasn't. A health concern forced me to re-evaluate what I ate, and now I've actually learned to enjoy cooking for myself.
I don't do it every day, but I'm also eating things that Bill didn't like. Like roasted beets and fresh brussels sprouts. I cook a lot on the grill, use a lot of fresh foods and have fixed my health issue and am finally losing a little weight.
It will happen for you. If you enjoyed cooking before, you'll get that back. It takes time. And those days will come along that you don't feel like doing anything but popping something in the microwave. So just make sure you have something halfway healthy.
Good luck with this ...
Because I like everything and anything...I just ate what everybody else liked.
Now after 45 yrs...I was LOST feeding just me. I had no idea how to do that. Grocery shopping was a brand new challenge...a sad one at first...but I'm adjusting to choosing things that I LIKE that I didn't buy before. It's not yet "fun"...but I am being more adventurous.
I do a lot of eating over the sink too, saves on dishes...
It is very hard for me to grocery shop. My husband worked in a grocery store for 33 yrs. Not only do I go there and see the food he loved, but remember him working there. I try to shop at places that aren't really grocery stores. That way it doesn't seem to hurt as much.
May be like some of you I will try to eat healthy next week????

Because I find it so difficult to cook for one...after having made such big meals...I plan to make and freeze meals for myself when I do make too much. I've tried commercial TV dinners, etc...but I find they all begin to taste alike.
