Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
I know how hard it is when you go to a wedding or have new grand babies and he can't be there with you. I think we grow numb after while and it just starts slipping. Maybe its just my memory going away. Sometimes I wonder if he was ever here its been so long now. (3 yrs) I keep hoping for something new to happen but I don't hold much hope.
I'm still crying also.
I wouldn't worry too much about the grandbabies. I only knew one of my grandparents and then only briefly, and it made no real difference in my life. My sons were born after my Dad died, and they lost the rest of their grandparents before they were out of school. Didn't make that much difference. They know about their grandfathers from stories we have told them, so that they understand their history. It's pretty recent that men started living long enough to be active grandfathers. Keep telling the stories to the kids and the grandkids and he will live on in their hearts.
Things will get better and they will get easier. Time alone does not heal a thing. As you grow stronger and more confident on your own, it will become easier to integrate the loss into your life experiences. When that happens, it becomes easier to see it as part of your life rather than the only defining thing in it. You will get to that point; don't give up.
Love and Big Hugs,
Martha
