I accomplished something.
Like many others, I inherited a myriad of tools, power and otherwise when my husband died.
Well I just used tow of them to accomplish a very small (tiny actually) building project. But the feeling of accomplishment is not tiny at all.
After I burned my old house down accidentally last year, I replaced it with a double wide mobile home. It was a used model and came with two decks. Last summer I had some friends remodel one of them to better suit my needs. All it really entailed was moving a set of staris, but it left the end of the railiing liiking odd and unfinnished.
I have been working on restaining the decks for a few days now and decided to cut a piece to make the end of the railing look finished. This entailed uwsing the band saw (someone who knew what they were doing would probably tell me that it was not really the right kind of saw for the job, but hey it worked so....)
Had to do it twice because the first one split when I screwed it on (power drill), but oh well. so I cut wood, drilled pilot holes and screwed in screws. Noiw all I have to do is stain it. Feels pretty good for one that is not all that handy.

I guess the only way to learn is get in there and do it - but I was sure berating myself for not paying more attention when Dan made me help with all those little projects.
Two weekends ago, I sanded, stained and polyurethaned a 20 year old butcher block cabinet that my husband had told me to throw out. Power sander (hence, the relevance). My neighbor (the one who once told me to "Get over it") was amazed that I could handle the tool. Powell's best friend came over a few days after I had finished and thought it was a new piece of furniture.
When I finished, I was careful to put his tools back. He always complained that I never put his things back where I got them (he was right). I think my Baby would have been proud. I only wish I had done it while he could have seen it.

I have used the power drill a few times now, all with success.
My next feat is learning how to run the snowblower. But, I really hope I don't have to fire it up this winter!
