I laid my husband's t-shirts out on the bed today. I'm picking the ones for a small quilt.

I'm combining his 2 loves ... Mexico and Pittsburgh sports teams.

We traveled to Mexico many many times, so most of the shirts are from Puerto Morelos, Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

Then I'm including Pittsburgh sports teams, his Steelers, Penguins and Pirates t-shirts.

I think the pillow will be a wonderful keepsake.

I just thought about this idea. I wanted to do something for the family since I have all of his belongings, but the quilts are so expensive I looked up some videos on youtube to try and do it myself. Sadly, I don't want to use all of his clothes to complete this so I think the teddy bear idea is great for his family and then the quilt for me and my daughter. I pray for you that things get easier.

I had a quilt made from my husband's favorite shirts, there was enough left to give one to my grandson he didn't meet. they missed each other by 6 days. It is something we can cherish for years to come.

I was reading a magazine today, and they had a how-to article on making a cushion cover from a man's button-up shirt which looked pretty easy. I Googled for that article online, it's not available yet, but I found this on a blog:

Anyway, just wanted to share another idea that might be quicker and cheaper than the quilt one. The great thing about the button-up shirt pillow idea is you don't have to sew in any zippers, and when you have stuffed it with the cushion you have something huggable. I know I hugged Cliff's pillow a lot......

I had a close friend make a memory quit, even used his underwear, lol. She screen printed 4 pictures of our family onto the quilt, even used some of his name tags, his badges from the military. Even socks, as part of the quilt. She made it queen size, so I could put it on my bed if I wanted, and there is where it lays, lol, sorrry pun on words. It's nice being able to still snuggle up to sean, not in the physical sense, for the spiritual sense. She also made a shirt pillow for my oldest daughter, its one of dads shirts made into a pillow. Then she used one of seans coverals and made a smaller apron for our youngest daughter, very cute. good luck, and you will enjoy yours. love to you martha, and big squishy hugs too lol.

When my mom passed, she left a lot of sweatshirts. So far, I have made 7 quilts from her sweatshirts. Then my husband passed. I made one quilt from his Steelers' shirts for his mom to have. Wrapping up in a memory quilt is like getting a warm hug from your loved one.

There is a lady here that I became friends with and she offered to make a quilt for me out of my husbands clothes. Since she started she has made pillows for each of my boys, a key chain for me, She took strips that were left from cutting the needed squares and braided them and sewed them together then framed it for me in a heart shape frame.
I asked why she was giving me all the extras and she said she thought I needed "a little something to hold on to" until she finishes my quilt. She has kept me informed through the whole process and asked my opinion during each step. I have to admit its been hard to watch but on the other hand I can't wait to see the finished blanket.
