I have thought of it....Norm always got me roses and I wanted to have a small rosee tatoo but I have knee replacements and am afraid of infection so I will opt to just buy a rose now and again..................I think it is a great idea...........always laughed with Norm about tatoos.........said if I had gotten a rose tatoo when I was young and he got me roses, by now it would be a whole bush.............lol

My little sister lost her only dtr on May 23, 2010. On June 9, 2010 our father died. My eldest daughter had a memorial tat of a dragonfly (a symbol of eternal life) done on her calf. My little sister (she's 39) had a memorial tat done of her daughter's face and the date of her birth/death done on her calf. My little sis and my middle sis had dragonflies done on each of the top of their feet.

They are all beautifully done, however, I would not have any tats. They hurt and I have enough pain internally to deal with from all of the deaths in my family in the past two years. They, however, loved the meaning and wouldn't change a thing.

Memorial tats are very comforting to the bearer and if you want one and are comfortable you tat to your heart's content.

Two of my girls have gotten tattoos in honor of their Dad, one has his initials, and the other has a small set of angels wings.

I don't like to talk about this and I have only told 4 people I know but when my wife died I got a tattoo in her memory, It's really cool it has her name inside a heart with a rainbow and a rose on the outside of it. I went to a well known tattoo shop with a good rep. but guess what? YUP I got hepatitis, Is life great or what.
SO THINK ABOUT IT SOME MORE!!!
And by the way their is no way to prove they gave it to me if I could prove it I would beat the living s**t out of everyone in that shop.
I am only telling you this because I don't want you to make the same mistake I did and I don't think anyone here will judge me
until they learn more about it, I think people on DS are better than that.......Hugs to all.....John

I have a tattoo on my ankle but no, I would not like to tattoo a memorial to my husband on my skin. I would like to keep him in my heart. Also, should I remarry one day, (the thought it far from my mind right now), - I don't think the tattoo would make the other person feel very good. Just a thought. Gail

I think I agree with all of the responses so far in one way or another. Personally, I do not like tatoos. However, going through grief is not easy -- hopefully one day I will feel stronger for having gone through it. I am at a stage that I am constantly grateful to God for all of the beautiful things around me -- flower, sky, trees -- as these are constant signs of everything living on this earth. So with regard to the tatoo, if that is how you choose to honor/remember or whatever Pat, I think you need to follow your instincts and do what you want to do. Period. As for waiting, I understand that logically speaking we change in our way of thinking from day to day, so I can only imagine after a year what a different person we may be. But we have no guarantees that we will be here in a year. I guess I am just living the present and if I wanted to do something -- there's nothing I personally want to do -- I would go ahead and do it. There is always laser treatments or something that can remove the art if one day you decide you don't like it anymore. Good luck and as usual, sorry for rambling..

I got a memorial tattoo of a heart with a ribbon on my right ankle. Inside the ribbon, the artist copied perfectly, my husband's signature. It looks like he signed his name. We had frequently kidded around about tattoos. I told him I wanted to put his name across my derriere! I like the one I chose for my ankle. It will only be visible in the summer. It won't be visible at work, . It's about 2 inches high. I said I like it? I love it.

I TO HAD A MEMORIAL TATOO DONE IN REMEMBERANCE TO MY HUSBAND. i HAD IT PUT ON MY ANKLE. AND BOY DID IT HURT, BUT IT WAS WELL WORTH IT. i HAD ALWAYS TOLD LARRY THAT I WANTED TO GET A TAT WHEN I WAS 50. I'M ONLY 7 YEARS LATE, BECAUSE I COULDN'T DECIDE WHAT I WANTED.

After losing my husband I got a tat on the inside of my lelt arm. He loved the ocean, so I got a sea shell with the ocean and sand around it and his name in the banner across the middle of the shell. I want 2 more tats. One for my mom and one cross.. I love all my tats..they are addicting tho...

I don't have any tattoos. I always wanted one though. I wanted me and my husband to put our names on each other. He didn't have any either. Then he heard once, if you make it to 40 without one, don't get one. He was 45 when he passed. Now I won't be 40 until December, maybe-just maybe. :) Sounds like a very nice thing to do. Good luck. I forgot to mention the "bonus" that Sherry spoke about. When people ask me about my tattoo, it gives me a chance ( 5-10 seconds) to tell them that it is my husband's signature and how wonderful he was/ how much I loved him. I love to talk about him! To me, it helps to keep him alive. Now, I wish I had done it while he was alive so he could see it! I'm glad you got yours, Wendy! I'm sure you'll love it, too!

yes! i went and got a portrait tattoo of my husband, and the went back and got another portrait tattoo of my mom....it lets me have them with me all the time, not only in my heart and soul, but on me as well...we were both tattoo people, so this is wonderful...i am having a sleeve done too, in memory of my honey...its us and what we believed in...he believed his tats told a story..all of them...mine do too...oh how i miss you honey..so much...so very very much.
