I too moved from my parents home to married life so I never have lived alone. It is hard to get used to. One thing though I only have me to blame if something is out of place or the DISH not washed. Yup not a lot of dishes either. It's amazing how we miss the things that used to make us crazy.

Thank you! Great article, I can't believe I'm more quirky than I was before. OMG I do some of the stuff that alone people do. I guess it does not take long to become quirky and in my case quirkier.

Thanks for the article. I read so much of myself in that article. I've never lived alone before and the past year has been a unique experience for me. I never close the bathroom door and I don't eat meals. I usually snack, eat breakfast, or pop a potato in the oven. I sometimes go to bed at 8pm just because I want to. I wear awful clothes in the house and I realized this morning that my house is a mess. I'm going home this afternoon to clean. I can't believe I'm so messy!! I really enjoyed reading this. It makes me feel less weird.

Too funny! I recognize some of my quirks and have to laugh. I lived alone until I met my husband at the age of 38 so no stranger to living alone but got used to having someone else around so my quirks were put away for awhile but are surfacing again. I will admit to one - I sing to my dogs and cat to the oldies radio station while dancing with the cat! No one has ever seen me do this but my pets enjoy it!

I don't think I have any quirks....yea right. I bake cookies every other night and what I don't eat I put in a ziplock for the next night. I love cookies!!! I watch the strangest things on TV like the Living dead...Diners, drive-In's and dives, The Golden girls....a real mix..no one around to tell me what to watch anymore. Sometimes I like living alone and sometimes I don't. Miss having someone to talk to but talking to myself and dogs does just fine.....If I want to yell I can yell no one else here to hear me. I never thought I would be living all alone.Hugs Chris

I have only been alone for three weeks. I miss my husband so much! I have his t-shirt (the one he died in) wrapped around the pillow that was under his head the night he died and it is on his side of the bed. I can still smell him on it...I give it kisses...(is that weird?) If it is, don't tell me yet please! I have reached for him in the night. Every mornign when I awaken I am a little disoriented...what is today..do I work..etc, etc. We have a little yorkie who is grieving him too. I talk to her a lot. I talk to my Lord a lot. I eat cereal at night. I have a feeling of sadness that comes over me every day around 3 or 4. It is without fail and I assume it is because I know I am getting ready to go home to an empty house.

TGk, I have my Joes t shirt that he was wearing the day he had the acccident. I put it in a zip lock bag because it has his scent on it. I too, open the bag and night , rub the shirt against my cheek as if I am hugging him and inhale to try and get every bit of him that I can. If it is crazy, then I am with you on that one.

This is the time I am happy to be alone since everyone else would think I am nuts..but it is so calming.

When my husband died 8 weeks ago today, I went out to buy his favorite cologne for his viewing and funeral. Now I spray myself with it when I am alone so I can smell him on me. I kept and wear his pj's, his "outfit" whenever we didn't have to go somewhere. Just t-shirts, sweats or his favorite around the house pj bottoms. Am wearing one of his t-shirts and his favorite around the house shorts right now. My favorite meal is Dinty More Chicken and dumplings and was upset when I realized I was out. He got me a new set of stainless pots and pans for Christmas (he died on 12/30/2011) and I haven't used them once. My favorite cookware is my microwave and my george foreman grill. Use his favorite coffee cup every day. Are these quirks? I think so sometimes but they comfort me.The article was funny but getting used to living alone has been hard. Only had him in my life for 2 1/2 yrs and had passed our first wedding anniversary in Sept. Always had a roommate before that. I am sure as more time goes by I will develop more quirks, but no one here to care. Getting a kitten and hoping it will be a good listener. Right now I talk to my dear Lee as I walk around the house and talk to his pictures everyday.

Great article...Thanks for posting! I was thinking as I was reading it that someone had been spying on me, but after reading the replies I realize I am not alone. I've been alone for almost 2 and 1/2 years now, for the first time in my life, and it seems I get quirkier every day. But I'm the only one who knows that...hehehe
