well now you did it nebby. that did it.
we have grandkids and great grands. He loved them so much, loved holding the babies too, even from the start, unlike some men. He spoiled them real good, from the first to the last. He had a way with the little ones. didn't wait till they were old enough to act like kids.
but finally the first one was conceived "after he died". and just a couple months ago he was born. I was the first family visitor at hospital, soon as staff would let me in the morning. and when my grand daughter handed him to me I was overwhelmed with happiness for a new life but I just went into another world right there, Full of memories about each & every one He had welcomed. I just held the baby swaying all around the room, looking him all over every inch. (my husband always covered every inch), saying "Oh you're beautiful, beautiful. How Papa would have loved you, He would have loved you...he would.... " Tears just rolled down my face and my grand daughter's too.
So many memories. I can't believe one has come along without him ever seeing. I had a couple hours alone there before anyone else.

I often think now, when we love someone clear from being young & beautiful, clear through our whole lives and get old together, how "to us" we still see Beautiful. Our memories don't age.

I never heard that song before either. Wow! Says it all. My husband used to tease me because although we were not yet grandparents, I'd refer to them as our future "grandbabies". For some reason he found that term funny. Well we never got to share being grandparents together which breaks my heart because he would have been the most awesome grandpa. We had family with young kids and our daughter referred to them as our " substitute grandkids" and they all adored my husband. He was such a kid himself. Wouldn't you know our first grandchild was born on his first anniversary. Of course we knew he must have had something to do with that. She's now saying "pa" at almost 15 months because she sees his picture hanging on her Christmas tree. So bittersweet. She even has big brown eyes like him. Perfect song. thanks.
