Ok guys, I took a big (for me) step today. I'm at 5 months and have been sheltering in. I have only left my house. 1 or 2 times a month since my Big Swede left this earth. I have had no disregard or tolerance for being out in the community.
Well, today my daughter and 4 yr old grandson took me out to lunch at the senior center. That was a great big risky step for me. I nearly backed out, but mindfully made the decision that it would be ok as long as they were there with .me.
It went well. We were seated at a table with 5 other seniors. (And not together.) They were welcoming and it was a pleasant social experience. In the back of my mind I kept thinking of Nanette and her experience with the Snooty Seniors. I also swallowed a smile when i pondered their reaction if I ran amok kicking over tables. Lol.
So, this afternoon I am considering making this a 2 times a week outing. The food was pretty good, conversation was easy and non-judgmental, and for $3.a meal, how could I go wrong. I am just going to need a pep squad to back me up. It's still really scary, but I think I can do this.
Can I check back here daily for encouragement and advise as I encounter the boogie men hiding waiting to fill us with panic every time we try something new?
Thank you all dear people for being my source of strength and encouragement. {{{Hugs}}} ~ Bailey ~

Come and get me. I'll go with you. If this is anywhere near L.A. I'm in.
You are exactly the kind of person that I love hanging out with......Don't get scared, I'm not a stalker [or, maybe I am. I could be the widow stalker!] Who better to stalk widow's then another widow!
Thank you for making me smile today. I was feeling so badly for my kids, who don't have a Dad anymore. I wasn't so sure that I was worthy of being both Mom and Dad! It was hard enough being Mom......I needed your post.
I tried going to a "widow's grieving group" and they were more "clicky" than the clicks in high school. It felt so uncomfortable!
I'll be your cheering squad for sure.....I'm very proud of you and can't wait to hear more stories of dining with the women!
Warmly,
Roz
Sandi, I just hope I can keep the courage. I live in a small town and have only lived here about 10 years. My Swede and I were a pretty closed unit. We had life long friends but not in our community. He grew up here, so I am the "odd man out" here. Hopefully I will meet some new friends. The table I was at were friendly, but other tables were ore Snooty and full of themselves. (The perfect targets for out Grannies Run Amok gang!. Lol
ROZ, unfortunately I'm about 1,700 miles from LA. But maybe we could start a franchise. I can see a lot of like minded widows/widower viewing this as a social outlet. We would meet folk, get exercise running from the outraged Snooty and have lots of new experiences.
And Scott. You will play an important role also. We will need a good PR person. With your writing skill I think you will be a great asset And of course we might need a Geezers Gang, too.
Seriously, you all make my life better. Love you all. Have a peace filled evening. {{{Hugs}}} ~ Bailey ~
Nice to hear you are well fed, we'll be cheering on you.
