I miss my husband so much these days. I feel like I have not had a real adult conversation since he died. Somehow every conversation I have revolves around his death or my future plans without him. I wish I could tell him all that is happening. I just bought my first house and our son just got his first apartment. He was so proud of himself as he didn't need me to co-sign for him. He thanked me for all the support I have been giving him and all I could say is I am trying to do as his dad would have done. In my heart I know he hears me and sees what is going on but I miss his voice and his laughter.
My move is in 9 days and I have been sick to my stomach since I booked my airline tickets. This is it, no turning back. The house is sold, the furniture sold and the rest is waiting for the moving truck. Six months ago I was making a candy bouquet for my husband for valentines day, which he never got to eat because he ended up in the hospital the next day. Now, I am in an empty house with 3 kids and 3 dogs planning on moving 3,000 miles away. I am happy to move, the house holds too many memories. My husband always said he didn't want to die in this town. He wanted to live by the beach, so I bought a house walking distance from the beach. Somehow it gives me confort that he can enjoy it with us some way. I am tired of running into neighbors and acqaintances who don't know how to acknowledge me so they pretend they don't see me or give me that look of pity. But at the same time I am afraid I won't make any friends and will have to depend on my siblings for adult interactions. This could have all been avoided if my husband were here so this is where I find myself. He isn't coming back and I have to keep moving forward.

Today I feel grateful. Grateful for my dog Blue (Blue Jean Baby Queen, Prettiest girl I've ever seen). Grateful I'm still kickin'. Grateful I'm finally taking responsibility for my health. Grateful I own my home. Grateful for good friends and neighbors who watch over me. Grateful to God for His everlasting love and patience with me. Grateful I survived the 10 years since my wife of 30 years...

You'll make friends. In your new place you don't have to be the widow. You can be whoever you want to be. Tell the neighbors how you got there only if you want to. Or not. You can decide. That will be nice to finally have a say in who knows your husband is gone.
