Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
I cannot believe that I am actually posting this but I am seeing someone! I really wasn't looking and didn't think it would happen, but it did.
I have been widowed for 13 months, although the reality is that my husband was terminally ill for a long time befor he died. It was two and a half years ago that we learned we would not grow old together, so my grieving has gone on much longer than 13 months.
I honestly think it's time because it FEELS right. I don't feel guilty or any of the other feelings that I imagined I would feel if I ever dated again.
So strange, though, to be back in the dating world after 32 years of being out of it!
He's a divorcee, which of course is not the same thing as being a widower.
I haven't really told anyone except for a few close friends and of course the neighbors know lol. As far as family, I feel that my sons should be the first one to be told and I haven't told them yet. I don't know how they will react but for now, I have decided that they really don't need to know anything yet. If this becomes serious, then, of course, they will need to know.
For now, it is early October and I feel as if I have lived a lifetime since early September. First I got through a powerful hurricane and then this!
His name is Steve, which is the same name as my late husband. That's wierd but what can you do??

I am glad you are feeling good and hope it turns out fine. Just remember that even if it doesn't last, it's probably a good and necessary step in your rebuilding of your life. A lot of us have a hard time readjusting to dating again. You might also want to check out the member group here called "Hopeful Hearts" - they can give you extra support on some of the issues that come up. My co-CL, Shrn, is one of the Admins for that, so you would be in good hands.
Love and Hugs,
Martha
I'm so happy for you!!!!
