Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
I know all the ways I'm supposed to deal with the loss of my wife. Find new friends, new hobbies, a new romance. Keep busy and don't spend too much time alone. Strive to get over the grief. However, I find myself on a different path. Truth is, I really don't want new friends, hobbies or romance. I lost a lot of my joy and desire, but I'm not trying to recover it. I just take whatever bits of joy and desire whenever they show up. I don't run from the grief. I let it come in when it needs to. I go to work and I have a weekly Saturday night dinner with two friends. The rest of the time I spend alone and I prefer it that way. I don't want a busy active life. I want to live out the rest of my days quietly. Life is no longer happy, it's melancholy now. But I'm ok with that. I will once again quote C.S. Lewis. "the pain is part of the love". This isn't the path most people would recommend, but it's the path I'm most comfortable with. You may be told to go in a certain direction by friends, family, grief counselors or people on this site. Take in their advice, but in the end, please just follow your heart. There is no right or wrong path. Take whatever road gives you the most peace. My prayer is that all of us dealing with this great loss can find some peace in our hearts.

Old Hillbilly Wisdom:Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.Keep skunks, bankers, and politicians at a distance.Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not yelled. The best sermons are lived, not preached. If you don't take the time to do it right, you'll find the...

We are all just here trying to help people possibly find a path by suggestions and experience. A friends helping hand along the way is an olive branch that everyone needs now and then... whether you choose to accept it is up to you.
Best wishes to you on your journey...

Some days, MANY days, I don't want to move out of bed, or out of the house, or off the block.....
Here again, sometimes you just have to forgive. They don't have a flippin' clue what we are up against, inside and out.
I have heard teachers say, that the old english word "conversation" means "manner of living". It is our way of living, which others are able to observe.
Ahhh, but trouble so soon arises while during communication, that so much of ourselves is invisible to others.. even to our closest comrades.
Communicate (in old english, meant "give") adds more problems to each translator..for words and actions and human shortcomings all combine to smudge out what we write in the dust, with our finger.
The essence of our "selves" is elusive, mysterious, and known only to our hearts. At each moment. For our hearts are not static. I am not the same today, as I was a year ago. nor are you. Or any of us.
One size does not Fit all.
So, caveat emptor "buyer beware". Use caution about free advise. It will cost you more than advise which has been hard-earned!
I believe we have all received unrequested advice from non-grieving people. Even experts. That can hurt us more than a weapon intended for War is capable of. and tends to linger in the air, where we wish we could set them straight.
This, the “most unkindest cut of all.”. my friend.

Barb.
