I've been debating as to whether to put this my journal or add it here but decided to add it here, hopefully to help others. I apologize for the long post.
Regardless of what I say I know there will be those that refuse to believe and to each his own, but here is my own experience.
Two days after my wife passed, like most of us here I was distraught more than I would have believed possible. Besides the feeling of guilt at not being able to prevent my wife's passing I had to know if there was more to life or whether it was simply like a light switch, alive/on, dead/off.
I started looking up psychics, realizing that there are a great number frauds and phonies out there, just waiting to tell you what you think you want to hear. I finally found someone here in Canada, very reputable, and on the recommendation of others but could not see her for 1 1/2 months after scheduling an appoint. due to her schedule. I finally saw her on March 30th.
The session was recorded(I was allowed to bring my own digital recorder) and even though a session is usually 45-70 minutes long, she allowed me to stay over 3 1/2 hours and my recorder ran the entire time, using an SD card to record on.
Without going into detail as to what was said, and because of the length of time involved I will say this. Prior to the appointment she only knew my first name, absolutely nothing else about me. My name is nowhere on the internet and it was a cash transaction so nothing with my name was involved. She didn't know why I had come because when I arrived I was asked not to give out any information because it would interfere with the reading, which I didn't.
I had my recorder running the entire time while she explained how our higher or spiritual selves are different than our physical selves.
Once she said she was ready to start, she still didn't know who I was there for or why I was there but she started talking based on what she felt coming through.
She told me things no one, and I mean no one could possibly know because they were very close personal things between my wife and myself, even so far as to bring up a personal joke between my wife and myself.that no one, not even my chidren knew about. And she said it word for word. There was much more to this and I'd be happy to talk to others about it but this is getting pretty long.
The basic point I'd like to make is that this person told me things casually and with certainty that others couldn't possibly know or guess at and convinced me that no one but my wife could be saying. She even burst out laughing after mentioning a personal saying my wife used to say to me all the time, thinking she must have made a mistake in the reading but I understood it. At one point she stopped and told me about my father who passed away a year ago and waned to make his presence known as well as my uncle who passed away 7 years ago. She knew my uncle was my mother's brother, even telling me the name of his daughter so I would know the message was from him. She also described my father exactly to a tee, and gave me a message from him.
She went back to my wife then because she said hers was the main and strongest presence in the room.
I was told that when someone passes, they have the same pesonality as when they were in the physical, the same sense of humour, etc..
They simply leave the physical form behind like discarding a coat. It was explained to me more fully but that's basic idea.
Again, there is much, much more I haven't said because this is long enough already but although I left there in tears and still miss my wife more than I can say, I also left with a feeling of peace that still lasts today and has helped me to deal with this in a different way.
I've always been a believer in God but this has reafirmed my faith more than I can say.

The great Houdini speant many years looking for a true psychic, but never found a real one. Doesn't mean they aren't out there. The bible also tells us that the Holy Sprit can show us things to come. Doesn't mean that no one else can. I'm merely meant that you may also be able to receive the same message. We are not using all of the abilities God has given us. He tells us when can move mountains, but it's not something I've ever seen. Doesn't mean that one day someone will come alone with the faith to do just that.
That being said, I was merely curious, looking for possibilities as to how the psychic knew so many things. You've answered my questions and I thank you. I meant no offence, but you have to understand that whenever I finally read something from someone regarding the veracity of a psychic, I am excited. I'm so used to the Sylvia's, the John Edwards--both of which are fast talking, entertaining charletons.

Actually I believe you are right on a lot of points. The huge majority of phsycics are not what they say and if you do see one you have to be prepared for that.
I also have always believed that sylvia brown and john edwards are scam artists who are good cold readers, letting their subjects fill in the blanks to make them believable.
I went into this with an open mind, but also a certain amount of skepticism. I am grieving but not stupid, and I'm not infering that you were implying that. There was just too much real information to doubt.
I was told about one reading by one of two adult sisters, one of who is very religous and a licensed therapist who came for a reading regarding their 74 year old father who'd passed due to cancer. There was a fair amount of guilt involved for personal reasons. One was completely against the idea because she was convinced it was a complete waste of time.
In a short while they were both in tears, being given messages about things they did with their father as young girls, even telling them about some of their mannerisms, and likes and dislikes as children. Very personal information known only to them, even going so far as a song that was sung to them. One was even told that her leg would be fine. (she had slipped a week ealier and scratched up her leg badly. She wore pants to the session and had no limp or anything that would give away what had happened. She had more or less even forgotten about it. Yet when they asked something as simple what his job was (he was a shoe maker) he couldn't answer because he didn't seem to know. That's very strange but was explained that some things simply aren't important enough, so the spirit simply either doesn't remember or it's not important enough to retain. It was explained in a better way but that's the way I understood it. I'm wondering if harry Houdini's number is in that category. It simply isn't something remembered or necessary to the spirit anymore. Who can really say.
Another thing that is remarkable to me - these "signs" often occur on a "significant" day - when my husband's ashes were buried, my last day of work after thinking I'd be out of a job, Easter... etc.
I have read so many remarkable stories since on this site. I wish that in the beginning I had started keeping a copy of them.
Glad to hear you had a great experience. I often thought this would be interesting - but would not know who to contact. Maybe some day I will look into it more.
It takes time and accuracy to earn them and you can't guess or play games because the boards providing them know what they're doing and as you say, it takes time and accuracy.
I think I am probably starting to belabour this so I think it's probably better to let people make their own choices.
I'll just say there are reputable psychics out there and can be found if you do your homework.
We're burying my wife's ashes tomorrow. We have family flying in from other parts of Canada and I'm dreading it but as sad and tearful as it will be, the burial is where and in the way my wife wanted and I know she's ok and will be there with us.
Even knowing that, since I'm still in the physical I'll still never stop missing and loving her but it has brought me some peace.
