I've been debating as to whether to put this my journal or add it here but decided to add it here, hopefully to help others. I apologize for the long post.
Regardless of what I say I know there will be those that refuse to believe and to each his own, but here is my own experience.
Two days after my wife passed, like most of us here I was distraught more than I would have believed possible. Besides the feeling of guilt at not being able to prevent my wife's passing I had to know if there was more to life or whether it was simply like a light switch, alive/on, dead/off.
I started looking up psychics, realizing that there are a great number frauds and phonies out there, just waiting to tell you what you think you want to hear. I finally found someone here in Canada, very reputable, and on the recommendation of others but could not see her for 1 1/2 months after scheduling an appoint. due to her schedule. I finally saw her on March 30th.
The session was recorded(I was allowed to bring my own digital recorder) and even though a session is usually 45-70 minutes long, she allowed me to stay over 3 1/2 hours and my recorder ran the entire time, using an SD card to record on.
Without going into detail as to what was said, and because of the length of time involved I will say this. Prior to the appointment she only knew my first name, absolutely nothing else about me. My name is nowhere on the internet and it was a cash transaction so nothing with my name was involved. She didn't know why I had come because when I arrived I was asked not to give out any information because it would interfere with the reading, which I didn't.
I had my recorder running the entire time while she explained how our higher or spiritual selves are different than our physical selves.
Once she said she was ready to start, she still didn't know who I was there for or why I was there but she started talking based on what she felt coming through.
She told me things no one, and I mean no one could possibly know because they were very close personal things between my wife and myself, even so far as to bring up a personal joke between my wife and myself.that no one, not even my chidren knew about. And she said it word for word. There was much more to this and I'd be happy to talk to others about it but this is getting pretty long.
The basic point I'd like to make is that this person told me things casually and with certainty that others couldn't possibly know or guess at and convinced me that no one but my wife could be saying. She even burst out laughing after mentioning a personal saying my wife used to say to me all the time, thinking she must have made a mistake in the reading but I understood it. At one point she stopped and told me about my father who passed away a year ago and waned to make his presence known as well as my uncle who passed away 7 years ago. She knew my uncle was my mother's brother, even telling me the name of his daughter so I would know the message was from him. She also described my father exactly to a tee, and gave me a message from him.
She went back to my wife then because she said hers was the main and strongest presence in the room.
I was told that when someone passes, they have the same pesonality as when they were in the physical, the same sense of humour, etc..
They simply leave the physical form behind like discarding a coat. It was explained to me more fully but that's basic idea.
Again, there is much, much more I haven't said because this is long enough already but although I left there in tears and still miss my wife more than I can say, I also left with a feeling of peace that still lasts today and has helped me to deal with this in a different way.
I've always been a believer in God but this has reafirmed my faith more than I can say.

I have an open mind and often believe that some psychics do have a gift to share with us.
Cheers, Cindy xxoo
Thank you so very much for sharing with us, your experience. It confirms my belief, that our souls are forever, and comforts me to know that my husband is close by.
Today is 6 weeks and has been a very sad day for me, your post has lighened my day a bit.

my husbands illness and death without my faith... I attended a
conference in NYC and saw James Van Praagh since that time
and before I have wanted to see a medium/psychic , so I thank you
again for sharing your story.... I think I might just need to do it...
Your words are very affirming of a power greater than us...
thanks
I feel our loved ones are watching over us.
Also have thought of seeing a psychic.

Now you said that she'd been recommended. Is it possible that others may have provided information about you--such as your last name? She had 6 whole weeks to get info on you.
I'm just stating the possibilities. Like I said, she may have been real. As for me, I don't believe these so-called psychis, and believe it or not I've been called one on more than one occassion when I've figured out things I couldn't possibly have known. Yes, I've even figured out a person's first name. Happens all the time.
I do believe that we can be shown things to come. Says so in the bible, but I believe it comes from the Holy Spirit, and it's given freely to any one of us. I don't believe that God excludes anyone from this knowledge. I don't believe he would force us to pay for something that is free.
To answer your question though, the people whom recommendations came from were not people who knew me personally, not even knowing my name. They were people I'd met on the net, none of which knew anything about me. I just researched before deciding.
The psychic knew only my first name before my visit. No last name was given period. I volunteered no information whatsoever, even during the reading. The psychic had a pad of paper which she wrote her answers on even before she gave them to me. Afterwards I was given all the paper she wrote on as well as my own recording of the entire session.
I was simply a first name, and a very common one at that.
And in a city of over 5 million good luck getting info on a first name.
Also, quite a bit of the information I was given was very personal between my wife and I, that no one, not even my children were aware of.
Of course like you say, she did have 6 weeks. She could have given my first name to a detective agency who would find friends and relatives of mine based on only my first name and gotten personal information that they knew nothing about. Even my email address doesn't include my name.
She could also have taken an add in the paper, asking who knew me by a first name and was there any info they could give on me.
Sorry if I appear to be making light of this but you weren't there and as I mentioned, the information I received did not come as a series of questions, hoping I'd grab onto one.
She does charge for this because that's how she makes a living and I can't fault her for that because it wasn't an exhorbitant amount.
As I mentioned the information was mostly very personal, based on my wife wanting to give affirmation that it was she who was there.
I haven't mentioned more than a fraction of the information though.
I have every respect for you for not believing. I also feel a little sad that you are as close minded as you are. Guessing a person's first name and figuring a couple of things out is not even in the same realm as talking for hours about things that no one but my wife and I knew about, things we were planning, even mentioning small sayings we had word for word.
I hope you peace in your beliefs as I have peace in mine.
