Emotional/tearful

A year ago this month my husband passed away unexpectantly. I still find I am not able to control my tears. Also when talking about him I'll start crying. Kindness in other people make me cry. I'm wondering if this is normal for other people.

It's normal love. In the first year I was in an absolute fog. The second year hit me like a ton of bricks. I cried and got angry at every little thing. I'm heading into three years since Michael died and every minute of every day I am still reminded that he is not here. Three grandchildren have been born since he left and I cry because he hasn't seen them. I still cry everyday because I miss him so much but I have learned how to cope and you will too. Much love darling.

Hello Trish, When somebody has been and is so much a part of our lives, so many things can trigger emotions. The seemingly smallest things remind me of of some memories of Amy. Often times when people ask me how I am coping, the flood of tears opens up. I am only at the three month mark, but I do not see any changes to my emotions any time soon.

Only a year, that's not long. I am going on 2 years in just 2 weeks. I am trying to prepare myself. I had my doctor concerned about me since I was still struggling so much, I told him about the anxiety, tense feelings, sadness ...he's helping me. But believe me it's so normal for you to feel this way. THis is a huge part of your personal life gone from you and it's hard to relay that idea to people. People will tell me, I don't want to bring up your husband because I thought it would make you sad. WHAT? I tell them, no matter whether you do or not I am always going to be sad I don't have him, he was the love of my life. Talking about him actually helps relieve stress for me. And yes, you will cry when you do, but it's because you feel his loss. Broken hearts need lots of time to mend. As for me I will tell you, what time right now is doing for me, is only coping with the changes of my life. I know we all need to get used to this new life on our own. It's hard but don't worry that you're not normal, "you must grieve first and then you mourn" is what I read on a eye opening article from a Ph.D counselor. It helped me understand myself and what was happening to me.
Take care. Tears only show how much we loved our spouse. Talk to him about the things you loved about him, and the things that make you smile. I wish you the best. Write anytime.
