My next door neighbor every year puts on a huge big feed in his meadow with a large pond with huge tents, food and a band every year. The last time I went was with my husband 2010 before he died. I just couldn't go, last year I was out of town but Bill told me I needed to go so I made a salad and went. I saw a lot of people we knew as couples and visited but always ending up sitting a lone. Even when I sat near a couple I was essentially alone. And darn it it was lonely. The band was really really good and one husband asked me to dance (Roger and I danced a lot)
SO I left at 9:30 still is going on but I just felt so alone....
How do you feel not all alone when at this age you are. When I was younger I did not but now its so obvious. I really hate it. BUT what can you do? I did what I could sat for awhile felt lonely than left. And I want to enjoy but there was no way watching all our coupled friends and others together having a good time, talking, dancing, enjoying.
SO DANG IT I hate it

Old Hillbilly Wisdom:Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.Keep skunks, bankers, and politicians at a distance.Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not yelled. The best sermons are lived, not preached. If you don't take the time to do it right, you'll find the...

You should know this comes with the territory. Dang it anyway! People that have not suffered our loss just have no clue. I know I didn't. They don't know what to say, what you're feeling, they are absolutely blind and clueless. Again I say, so was I. I think it is our society - our maybe it is just this huge ignorance. No one speaks of death, no one prepares us for death of our spouse, and before that happens to anyone else, they don't want to even consider that future, so they leave us alone -- clueless as to how that just intensifies our pain. I'm only about 3 months into this, but I've already experienced that being where we were a couple is no longer the place for me. Too many memories, too much sadness, too much just being left alone. Can't say much else, other than I understand now and see it happening. Sadly, I know I used to do it to others (Why can't they just get over it - enough is enough). What an idiot I was. So, all I can say is, Dang it anyway! ~ Scott
So I'm with you on the Dang it (and a few stronger words too).
Stay strong .. you will find a way to have the social life you want but I've found that I put my comfort first and try not to get into too many situations where I am not comfortable.
Big hugs
I know that people mean well but when they call to check-up on how I'm doing, I listen to their call, I screen them and I don't call them back. I know they're showing concern, love and friendship but to talk about Morey only makes me sad and when the conversation is over I'm exhausted!
I realize that after a while they'll just stop calling and that's okay for me right now. I want to go home from work, collapse in front of the mindless TV and do nothing. Sometimes on the weekend I just want to do housework, sleep, play a video game, watch a movie and do absolutely nothing in the comfort of my own home. I don't want to socialize, I don't want to see other couples or family members........I just want to veg.!
If I moved to a strange city where no one knew me I'd be okay with that.
Morey and I lived a full and rich life together. We traveled the world, raised children, owned and built our own homes and were madly in love. I'm one of the lucky one's I know......but, that's all changed now and there's NOTHING that I can do to make my life different, not now, nor do I have the desire to.

All of you are brave for heading out into the world. I want to hide.
