So yesterday I boxed up my husband's clothing. Salvation Army came today to pick up the items. This was very hard for me to do, as I am sure many of you can relate. I hate the thought that this is what it has come to. All my husbands things (or most of them) are now in a box & sent to a charity. Of course I kept some things, but it just doesn't seem right to just box up items & send them off. I had to put my wedding ring back on too. So much for thinking out of sight out of mind. Just didn't work, so I now have my band on my right hand. Six months and again I feel worse. Crying so much more. How the heck do you get through this. It is so hard & I hate it.

Find someone close that can help you. After my Mom died, the 3 of us kids helped my Dad go thru her things and give them away or repurpose them. Mom was always stashing cash away for a rainy day. Going thru her things we found over $1K tucked away in hat boxes, shoes, coat pockets, etc. We all began to giggle and reminise about times when Mom would dip into her stash and surprise us with something special. Remembering that, I asked my daughter to come to help me with Capri's things and we too had a better time that I would have alone. Like my Mom, she surprised us too. No hidden cash but we found the valentines card my she had lovingly prepared and hiiden away for me, knowing she might not quite make it to Feb. 14. Better than money, priceless.

Also, we moved all her clothes and personal items, toiletries etc. out over one weekend. My daughter also helped me reorg my closet, dresser and bathroom cabinets so they wouldn't look so empty without her things. She really helped me by doing that.

I just took down the sympathy cards today. That was hard. My husband passed almost three months ago. Can't seem to tackle clothes in his closet. I slide the door open, and cry - then close. I was able to tackle half of his armoire.... I keep telling myself it will happen when I am ready and not to rush. I put a large teddy bear he gave me on Christmas on his side of the bed. Brings me comfort he gave that adorable bear to me and it was a happy time for us that holiday. My heart misses him so very much.

There are many people who really need those things and it is nice to think that someone is having good use of them. It would be all wrong to keep them. They are not your memories. The love that you had is all that you need. The Lord said, If you have two coats give one away. My partner had two coats and gave both away in mid winter. I thought she was daft and told her so, Even the good Lord said give ONE! She smiled. "Both women were cold, who should I have chosen?"
All of you: Your loved ones are clothed in light now, so let the clothes go where they can continue to serve.
