Thanks everyone. I've come to the conclusion I definitely am not ready to move anything. When I do, I definitely will have some of my support friends and family with me. I hate this lifestyle and miss Bill so much. Tonight is starting to be one of those nights. The upcoming holiday is so hard to face.

I donated several bags of clothing and shoes to a charity nine months after my wife passed away. That was almost six months ago. A lot of her things are still here and I haven't felt up to packing them for the next pickup. It's not easy to do. The toughest thing was going through my wife's purse. I avoided it for a long time and when I finally did it, it was as emotionally bad as I expected. I know from experience that you have a lot of other things to deal with just five weeks after your husband passed. Don't rush to deal with his clothing until you're feeling stronger. I like the prior advice to have someone with you. I had to do it alone, but wished that was not the case. Best, Jeff

At about 3 months my daughters all came over and got what they wanted and we donated the rest to the local hospice thrift store. My oldest is making a quilt for everyone from them. It could take a couple more years.

On the same day I came back home, I packed all the pyjamas he'd been wearing his last two months and threw them out. I didn't want to see them any more. Luckily, I kept his clothes for much longer because I regretted what I did some time later. I broke down one day and wished I could have those pyjamas back.
I took my time going through his clothes. I've given some away to charity and relatives, kept some I know I could never part with, and I'm still unsure about what to do with many of his clothes which are still here. Why rush?

No hurry, take your time. There is no set time for healing. It is slow but you will get there as we all did. Pray, pour your heart out to Him, cry until your eyes are dry. He listens and He will comfort you.

I'm at 6 months since Bob passed. I gave some of his clothes away about 2 months ago. A friend of my daughter lived next door to a house that burned down. The people living there were left with nothing. My daughter asked if she could take some of Bob's clothes for the guys that lived there, they were about the same size as Bob. I figured it would be better if someone could use them than to have them laying around. I know that Bob would be OK with that. Since then I've gone through the rest of his clothes that weren't in good shape and threw them away. I also went through my own clothes that I haven't worn in a while and got rid of them. I felt comfortable with this , you just have to wait until you feel you're ready. There is no one "right" time do what you feel comfortable with.

it took 6 mo before i was able to go through his clothes,each time i started the process i just couldn't finish.
my sister helped me when i was at the point i was strong enough to
pack up his clothes & deliver them to the shelter.some things i kept like his favorite boots & several of his caps.
you will know when the time is right,trust your heart.

I am at 8 1/2 months just can't throw out anything of eddie's-he was a real "beach person" the thought of throwing out his bathing suits-tee shirts and sandles are too much now-i too have everything just about in place-gosh i miss him so much-it's the terrible lonlieness, the nites, the mornings-just wish i could have my old life back-eddie went unexpectedly - it's a horrible place to be without him-

Hi everyone I am new here. I tried to get my daughter's to help me get rid of Jim's clothes. Well that went on for a year and I finally cleaned out three closets of his clothes. I put them in trash bags and put them in the garage. Then my youngest daughter told me about a neat thing they were doing at the hospital she worked. I packed all the clothes up in the van and put them by her garage. No more getting out of it..she took all of them to work so poor people could have some new clothes. I still have his BDU's and a few shirts and his bathrobe. Anyone know what to do with the BDU's? I don't think you can just sell them.....

Lost my husband May 21st. Clothes are still in the closet. I sleep with his house coat. I did take his favorite t-shirt with a boat on it to be made into a pillow. Hope Hospice does this for free. I think everyone is different when it comes to this. I know my mother still had Dad's clothes a year after his death. My sister told me this since she helped Mom move a year after he died. (I live in FL, they live in NY) I say do whatever is comfortable for you. There is no rush.
