My husband died 22 days ago. And I am thankful that he is no longer in pain. No medical supplies. He is healed, whole, and happy. I am thankful for my friends that let me go from rationale to crazy at the drop of a dime. And I am thankful for my family, and our 2 boys that remind me of their daddy everyday. I am thankful that God let me have Todd for almost 29 years. I was 16 when we started dating, and married at 18. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I am thankful to God for the 36.5 years I had with my husband and for keeping my grandson and I safe on the road every day going to the babysitter. I am very thankful for my husband who had loved and taught me many things that I now am strong enough to stand alone. I am thankful for our daughters, grandchildren, son-in-laws, one brother-in-law and friends who are very supportive.

Thanksgiving is not a day we celebrate over here in UK, but perhaps it has greater importance or significance than most. I am thankful for the loving family around me, as we all endure the loss of someone very very special from our lives. Tracy was a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt as well as a loving wife. Together we have supported each other and it has brought us closer together.

Thanks for opening the thread Kymberly! Thanksgiving is my fave holiday . . . probably because there are no expectations attached (except maybe the Turkey, but I'm a vegetarian, so not even that is important to me, LOL). I simply love sitting around the table with friends and/or family and sharing what we are thankful for. It's a day that serves to remind that we should be thankful everyday, for there is always something to be grateful for. This year perhaps may be a little difficult as it is my first without hubby; however, I am mindful to be thankful for even the simplest things in life. Happy Thanksgiving All.

I am thankful for the many years of health and happiness my life has been granted. For my children and grandchildren who work hard and make me proud. For a second chance at life aafter a 40 year marriage to a man who was loyal andtrue aand friends and family who have stuck by me through thick and thin. I'm thankful for the faith in a Loving God who guides me and the ability to have comfort in his leading. Sharon

When we are deeply grieving it is hard to remember there is much to be thankful for. I am thankful that I found DS early in this awful journey and I thank each and every one of you who send hugs and encouragement and understanding. I am thankful to have a few exceptional friends who have held me up when I would have fallen otherwise. I am thankful to strangers who have given me a hand from out of nowhere. I am thankful to my newly found churc, pastor and congregation for unending support and kindness. The list goes on, but most of all I am thankful to God for 38 years with a wonderful man who I love with all my heart and who also returned that love every day.

Thanks for starting this thread Kymberly, as it so easy to forget our blessings while dealing with loss. The Lord allowed me 32 years with my wife Laurie and we raised 3 wonderful children, he has given me good health and friends I can count on, now if he could just throw in a 70 degree sunny day!

Enjoyed reading all the previous replies. It is wonderful that each person is able to be grateful, even in their great loss. I was blessed to have a marriage of 50 yrs. & 8 mo. This is my 6th year as a widow. Being older than most of you, I am very thankful to be able to see, walk, and drive. I haven't driven on trips for several yrs., but can run errands, go shopping etc. This means a lot, because I live "10 mi. from everything."

The holidays present a great challenge to our emotions, especially that first year. Counting blessings, even in sorrow, is a way to be lifted up. My divorced son & his teen dtr. live with me now - and his younger one stays ever other wknd. All this has altered my life and at times I'm very stressed. However, I am thankful I don't have to eat T'giving meal at a soup kitchen, that I have good neighbors and friends, that I have been able to remain in my home of 41 yrs since my husband's death. I am thankful for God's love and blessings to me and my family. Last weekend I traveled 2 hrs. for a family reunion of cousins & friends. What fun! For Christmas we plan to drive 4 hrs. & be with my daughter's family. Remember Psalm 136:1: " O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endures forever."

I am thankful for the 24 years I got with my honey. The way God has provided for me. The roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food to eat. Also my fantastic family!

I am thankful for the wonderful doctors in Chapel Hill NC, who did my surgery after doctors in my home town gave up on me.For my wonderful daughters who insisted on me getting a second opinion and took days of from work to get me to appointments.I am thankful to be able to come here and be with people who understands the pain of losing a spouse.

I am thankful for the life lived and the life I still have to live and all the people and experiences that come with it. I am particularly grateful for the incredible 22 years I had with a incredible lady my soulmate Pablita and the daughter we raised together. I am most grateful that even during the darkest times of my life God found a way to open my heart to him otherwise I would not be standing today. Thank you Kymberly for the nice post. This was a family ritual at our Thanksgiving dinners since I was a child..Everyone had to say 1 thing they were thankful for before we ate. When we were at times 40-50 of us you could get quite hungry before the last one finished..lol. But such a precious memory !!
I am thankful for my children and grandchildren, all my loving family and those special friends who have been there for me. My church family and all the wonderful people in our small community.
A warm home and food to eat.
But most of all my amazing husband and the love and memories we shared for 45 years

Great post. Tthings to be thankful for can surely be far from mind in the midst of such loss and resulting grief. I am thankful I was blessed to be Chris' wife. I am thankful for the wonderful father (now with Jesus) and mother God gave me. I am thankful for my friends and my co-workers who have helped me get through the months since Chris went home. I am thankful for the ability to work. thankful for DS and the people here. I am thankful for being able to walk, see, hear, talk, feel, smell...even if the emotionally feeling hurts deeply. Last but NOT at all least...I am thankful for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...for his sacrifice on the cross that gave me forgiveness of my sins and the gift of one day being in heaven with Him and my loved ones who also accepted him. I am thankful for knowing I WILL see my husband, my dad and those who go before me again in heaven and that there will at that time be no more pain, no more tears, no more sorrow.

All, i'm thankful for the support I get here and the kind understanding of all the emotional issues going on here. I'm thankful for my wonderful house and view and have way more than I need! I'm also very thankfull that Harley's mother taught him to groom himself cauz I don't want to lick him. He grooms me! Best to everyone and all the grieving souls moving through this life process. Too bad that we have many joining us daily but that is called living and it always hurts! As happy a TG as you can have depending on the circumstances of your situation. I think and respect all of you for sharing your heart with the rest of us. Hurt's like hell but we must do. Hugs and peace!
