I often think of another relationship,I know that no one can ever take Georges place in my heart. But I’m scared! We started off as friends and our relationship progressed from that and he was my best friend. I know that’s what I want but saying that and taking the steps are two different things for me. Any advice from those of you that have moved on with someone else?

Hi Victoria, I was married for 36 years, and I am 9 years into my journey, It took me 6 years to even consider dating. Before that, I was firmly convinced that I was through with men and wanted no part of them ever again (long story). When I reached 3 years, I realized that I AM OK. Three years after that, I decided that I wanted to be in love again, so I joined some dating websites. Nearly two years ago, I met the love of my life, and we are now engaged, He is a widower too. I am the happiest I have ever been in my life. So yes, it can happen. Now I am hoping it will happen again for my nephew who is only 40.

Hi Victoria et al, I lost my husband on Mar/110/2008. Over the years, I have thought of getting back into the dating world, however it just seems so complicated these days and a lot of the times, the thought of it makes me tired. I have figured out that I am not looking for someone to replace my late husband, however I feel like if I were looking, it would be for more of a companion than anything else. I have also already decided that one of the requirements (for a lack of a better word) would be that this person will have to be able to deal with the fact that I may talk about Mike from time to time and that I need to disconnect on anniversaries and his birthday and the anniversary of his death. Not being able to understand or respect that would be a deal breaker for me. Hope you have a good day and hugs to you all...xo

trinilisa, that's why I don't know if I could ever have got together with someone who hadn't experienced the loss. I think for me it was going to have to be a widower or they simply wouldn't understand who I am now.

No i never did after my first husband died.I expected my second husband to understand and he did. I still have a coat of my first husband in my closet and that will always be there. I didn't wear his rings on my left hand though especially after we married

I loved reading all your thoughts, Most of them are feelings and thoughts that I have thought as well and are rambling through my head still.. Each of you have given me a clearer perspective on what might happen next and how to consider it. The thought of dating has crossed my mind, but I haven’t actively done anything about it. It’s just something that might or could happen and how do I feel about it. You’ve all posed some great thoughts and questions to consider. The pictures of my husband are memories from chapters of our lives together. Right now there are many, but gradually I’m winnowing through some and setting them aside to be saved. But all of this is a part of me whether for only a short time or many years. As it is for all of us, how could it not be, they’re part of us our history. We don’t want to re-write it, just add more chapters.
