my wife, Rebecca, called out to me because she was in pain. 48 hours ago the doctors told me she would probably not survive the day. 38 hours ago she died after our daughters and I made the decision to remove life support. 18 hours ago I was at the mortuary making plans.
When does the nightmare end?

On June 12, 2015, I was also forced to make the decision to remove the life support. Directly after, I had a wave of guilt: why didn't I wait just over the weekend and get everybody to pray our hearts out for one final miracle, one last hurrah? But I remembered the many conversations Marylou and I had over the years, where we solemnly promised each other, that if the machine was the only thing keeping us alive...to have the courage to perform the final act of love...and shut the machine off. When that finds you and it's in-your-face, a living nightmare is exactly what it is; and the worst part is, there is no waking up. But do not carry the cross of the decision you had to make...because if it was not an act of love, you wouldn't have done it at all. Know that you separated her from whatever condition(s) caused her to be on the life support, and the pain and the fear that came with it...and you sent her to the light, the paradise God created for all of us. Know that she loves you and she waits for you. And don't be a stranger here, either. You are now part of the healing for all of us.
Hugs, Sandi
I'm so sorry that you lost Rebecca.
The nightmare will not end for a while. It will seem like it's getting easier and then it will slam you against the wall and rear it's ugly head when you least expect it!
Hang on, talk or write about your feelings as much as you can and leave the fog alone........it will slowly start to clear on its own.......it all takes TIME!
