Hey all...I am thinking about rejoining the Air Force. I was active duty for 12 years and had to leave because of some financial troubles made by my wife's ex-husband. I have been out for 8 years and recently have thought seriously about getting back in to finish out the 20 years needed to retire. Does anyone know any of the stipulations for prior service re-enlisting? Also...would love to get some opinions...

I don't know how it is now, but had to be able to finish your 20yrs, before your 62th birthday, but that was yrs ago.

more than 4 years out of service and you have to start training all over (including basic) but the only branch that would take you until the age of 36 would be the army, I checked last year.

I was going to rejoin the Army, but they were definetely chasing me. When I was in I was a E-nobdy. With my GI bill I got my bachelor's in nursiing. As an RN, they were offering all sorts of goodies to come back. Make me an officer, train only 2 weeks of officer basic, sign on bonus, count my previous time for pay/retirement, better chance of quick promotion, etc.
I know when I went to MEPS it was a whole different ball game. Same station as when I enlisted way back when, but this time I was shuffled through, put at the front of every line, my physical was a joke, they crossed their eyes and told me to lose a few pounds before basic, and I was out of there within 3 hours - when other recruits had a 2 day process with a lot tighter regs than me. Kinda funny to smile at the kids and walk to the front of the line.

Good to hear from you again Gunny. Both my ex-husban's parents were V-era marines - you sound just like them. They were/are great - it was the ex-hubby I couldn't stand.

I don't gunny, if it wasn't for the navy, you would have no way of getting to the action, "GO Navy"

The Marines are the first assault. The Army comes in to mop up. The Navy is out in the water saying "what action?" The Air Force says "Hand over the keys. We'll take over now." And let's not forget, without the Air Force you'd have no supplies and in many cases no way to get there.
