Im not even sure if i belong here.
I served in the infantry in the 173rd airborne brigade. Serve might not be the right word, i was on a medical profile the entire time. I severely damaged my knees in Ranger training and was sent out to the 173rd.
The whole time i was bouncing around medical facilities to find a way to walk without struggling with no luck. Finally they told me that i need to go home and search medical facilities there, i agreed.
My unit deployed to Afghanistan, to a little place called Kandahar. Which was a s#@t show and many people died.
Call it survivors guilt, call it what you will but not a day goes by i dont regret that decision. I know i would of died over there, i couldnt walk straight, couldnt run... but it feel like i ran from them.
Since being back ive had knee surgery, planning a second one, but the guilt remains, it haunts me... as it should

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
My military service was all plush duty, even for Signal Corps. I don't know if the haunting goes so far as survivor's guilt in my case, but I do believe our fallen comrades, be their service abroad or on our native soil, should haunt us all as a continual reminder that freedom is not free.
Please don't leave the group :).
Arfie, I belong to several Support sites, besides Daily Strength. For some reason, all the Veteran and Military Groups are slow moving.... Not sure why.
By the way, stop feeling guilty. It eats away at you.
I have a strong faith in God. It was meant to be, for you to stay behind. There's something in your life that you need to do. God has a plan and you haven't done it yet.
Life is a wonderful thing. Be happy your still a part of it.
