I am so tired of people and their reactions to my unemployment. I have now been unemployed for 10 months. I have not had any job offers in this time. I have been applying for at least 3 jobs a week sometimes over 9 a week on a good week. (Over 200 applications and counting to date.) I look through about 70 email feeds from job sites about 5 days a week. I don't see what else I could be doing. I need to make at least $15 an hour due to daycare expenses being $8,000 to $10,000+ a year. I used to make about twice this amount and I'm getting the impression that even $15 is too much to ask for. But there is no purpose in working for a job that will pay for just daycare and the gas to get to the job. I feel so hopeless. I have started to apply for secretarial positions however I doubt anyone is going to even reply to my resume due to having a Master's degree and these being entry level. I am thinking of starting to dumb down my resume and taking the Master's off... but I am proud of that achievement. I feel like this job cycle is going no where.... I need a job and no one wants to hire me. Every employer I've been with has always LOVED me... ugh just need to get in the door and show them... People think I should just go work at McDonald's - but they aren't interested in me... I'm so sick of all of this.

I'm just still surprised and shocked at how my life turned out and how a man who used to shed tears when promising me forever, to love, protect and care for me can suddenly turn into a narc I couldn't recognize. It's been two years since my divorce but sometimes the trauma and horror I experienced come rushing back. Anyway he moved on with another woman before we went our separate ways, turns...

I need some outside perspective because I’ve been feeling extremely lonely in my relationship, and it’s getting harder to ignore.I’m with a woman who has two kids, and over time I’ve realized I don’t feel connected to her or the home at all. She and the kids have their own bubble, their own rhythm, their own emotional world. I’m there physically, but I don’t feel included in...

I was in your situation and really did not want to take a low paying job either. Finally, I took a $9.50/hour job part time... and even that job was not easy to get.
Now, I have been there a little over 2 years and I am up to 13.50/hour full time. Still not great by any stretch. Looking back....I am glad I took the job because I think I would likely be worse off if I didn't take it.
Keep trying and do not give up.
I recently was chatting with a friend. I told her I just needed to vent about my work situation. I am not completely unemployed, but I am definitely underemployed doing freelance work. Finding a real job has been an exercise in futility. I guess she is just trying to help, but she started giving me suggestions of things I can do to make money, but they are not useful at all.
One example was to teach classes in crafts or art, even though I am not at all artistically inclined. Who would take a class from me? Another was to bake things to sell. I know I have told her on various occasions I suck at baking. I also dont have a real oven because ours died and we cant afford to replace the stove/oven right now we just have a toaster oven. It would also be illegal because there is no way I would get Health Dept approval to make things in our kitchen, so I couldnt advertise or anything. Finally, we have pets, including a dog that sheds a lot, so I would always have to worry about a dog hair making it into the food.
And the last example I will give, is that I should offer myself to help out the elderly in their houses. She doesnt live in my country, but she lives in a neighboring country that is similar economically. Those types of jobs pay extremely low salaries, to the point it would not be worth it. In the last years we have had an influx of workers from a poorer country in the region and women from accept maid, nanny and elder care jobs for very low wages (below minimum wage), because it is still better than what they make at home.
In the end, taking any crappy job at minimum wage or a bit above is so not worth it because the minimum is only US$400 a month for 45 hours. When I do get freelance work, I get paid very well, and over last few years I have made more than someone would make on that salary over a year, although it is very erratic. However this friend thinks I should just take any job, like retail, or whatever. No one would even hire me for that, because, like you, I have a Masters and my work experience is at a completely different level. I would have to invent a fake rsum.
My last full-time employment was self-employment, which ended in January/February 2012. I did manage to find a part-time position in July 2012, but that ended in October 2013. Since there are no extended unemployment benefits, my benefits ended at the beginning of May 2014. Since then I have had a part-time position and liquidated my IRA to try to survive. I have managed to find a contact position, but it barely covers the bills -- before self-employment taxes.
Things for me are more complicated because my mom just passed away and I am struggling to deal with my grief on top of all the stress of the job search.
