Recently unemployed or frustrated with the job search? Unemployment can affect more than just the bank account - it has a negative effect on motivation and self-esteem, even sense of identity. This community addresses the challenges associated with unemployment and how to cope.
It has been drummed into my head over and over by attending classes at the State Emp;oyment Service, that it is no longer what you know, nor is it so much who you know ,,,rather it is how cheaply you can be hired by whatever company and how much you are willing to be taken advantage of under any circumstance ,,,You can be dumped after 89 days and replaced with some other clown who is willing to take the same abuse for the next 89 day cycle,,,unless you marry the bosses daughter or have something of a criminal allegation against someone who has the capacity to fire you ,,,,you better be close to the second coming of Christ for that company...It is no longer a matter of doing a good job and being helpful and supportive ,,,it is now put on an elevated level that is never actually defined.
The standard back when was you applied for a job either in the papers or in later years through a computer search and you mailed or delivered your resume ...Your resume was then looked at either while you were there or was taken and perhaps contact was made a bit later ,,,,but it had weight and it meant something ,,,most times you got an interview at the very least ,,,and if you blew it ,,,,then YOU BLEW IT ,,,for whatever reason,,,you were in some level of control,,,,and how you came across determined to a great degree how H/R or the employer sized you up ,,,your experience, personality, capabilities, etc.
NOT ANY MORE ,,,,,a new paradyne has taken over ,,,and all the old standard assumptions are out the window,,,,it is little wonder that the American Labor force is fractured and walking on glass,,,,
New rules have been developed and no one is quite sure what they are all about ,,,,it is like all the new rules are written in a secret code that changes constantly and no one is quite sure if up is up or down is down,,,
Is it any wonder why American labor and industry is crippled maybe beyond repair ,,, ??

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
they have this optimistic level of they will get a job soon and evverything will be up to par and in speed like it was 8 yrs ago. those professionals on that biz site live in such a fantasy it is nauseating to listen to them.
i dont understand these "new rules" and this "Secret code" in order to get hired anywhere. what do people in general mean it is so easy to get a job now? why are they still unemployed after x amount of months/years? what happen to it being "so easy?"
like i always say and will say again, no matter how many times we change our resumes/cv letters/the way we speak in interviews, we are still not getting hired. if these interviews were so great and everything, how come we still can not get hired?
skills/knowledge/education/talent etc doesnt seem to mean anything to employers nowadays like the poster said work for meaningless pay, put up with abuse, be a slave, etc. i read i think in the phx biz journal they said now the average of keeping a job is 3 yrs and ur out the door unemployed again.
But, after what I just went through in my 10 months of working for a nearby school district, I believe your post is dead on correct. A worker could be doing an amazing job in a position, could have an incredible working relationship with their superiors and co-workers, yet, in spite of that, unseen forces working in the background could be working to that employee's detriment that the employee 1) has no understanding of 2) has no power to prevent and 3) may not be even AWARE of.
You're absolutely right, mycroftt - it's like the rules are written in secret code AND the contents of that secret code keep changing. Given that scenario, WHO amongst us has a prayer in hell of surviving in the American workforce?
My heart goes out especially to the younger generation. In days gone by, that college degree earned you a fast pass to a good job, with a promised steady advancement of both job title and income if you worked hard. Hell, even WITHOUT a degree one could reasonably expect that. No more. Now, all we can know about the average recent college graduate is that they have their degree and, more than likely, a huge student loan debt staring them in the face. Neither guarantees any kind of job anymore.
It hasn't been by accident that the American labor industry is severly crippled - this was an orchestrated plan, with MANY players, to bring this about. I guess my only question is "why"? Why cripple your own economy? Your own COUNTRY? I think if we really knew the answers to those questions, we'd be stunned and horrified.
I am tired of hearing about what Obama or Romney is going to do about jobs. They can't do anything. They are not the ones in control. The people who put us here, they're the ones in control. They're the ones who saw how desperate people could be to keep their jobs when the recession hit. So they give them more and more work. And they don't have to hire anyone else. And they can let them go right before they retire. They can do whatever they want.
Nobody is trying to return this country to how it used to be, where you worked hard and got what you deserved. Not after getting a taste of how much they can do with so much less.
I think that I have an answer to this ,,,though it ain't nice or pretty,, but as an observer of change it makes perfect sense ,,
It is a morphing of a values system that never existed to this level before ,,,,,the only significant time this occurred is during the Guilded Age of the turn of the 20th Century,,,and even that pales by comparison to what is going on today,,,,there was a blacklash that changed the dynamic and brought control and reason to American business eventually,,,at that time private enterprise played in PARTNERSHIP with public service employment ,,,not adversarial as it has been touted today,,,I think that both Obama and Romney come up very very short ,,,it is only voting for the better of two less able and willing candidates ,,,if there was a viable third option,,,there would be a rout to the third party this Tuesday,,
BTW,,, I am pushing hard for my pal AL FRANKEN in 2016 if we make it past the end of the world in Dec, of this year ,,,
