my dr started me on 300 mg 3x daily. it kicked in by the second day and I haven't had any additional pain since then.

I just came back from seeing the neurolisgist and he uped me to 3oo 3x day. hoping it helps.

I started in at the dose you are at. It took about a week to kick in.

I know it is hard to be patient, but remember, this drug works at different levels for different people.

It seems to be helping. I just dont like the side effect of being a little spacey. Does the side effects were off as your body gets use to the drug.and do you have to keep uping the dose?

I also went on Gabapentin and for me it did not work so I take Tegretol as well. You will feel spaced out but remember its diffirent for diffirent people. After a while it will work and if it does not the doctor will keep trying diffirent medication until one works for you. Good Luck

Neurontin is gabapentin. I took 300 mg twice, and then someone said, Hi, I'm Josh, and I said, I'm Josh, back to him. I was so embarassed! That stuff makes your brain like jello.

So now I have a whole bottle 300 mg, 58 pills, that I don't need. Turns out it was a tooth sitting on the trigeminal nerve that was dead and needing a root canal. The nerve pain is gone. The root canal pain is responding to Lortabs or advil. So I don't need the neurontin anymore.

I had dental work done before this started. Had a root cannal and a year later it failed so I had a dental implant put in. Last eek they put in the post. It would be nice if it was my tooth.

you mentioned that you take tegretol( carbamazapine) as well as gabapentin
How much of each do you take ?.
My neurologist is telling me to take the gabapentin "as needed" for example before going to the dentist when I can take 600 mg.
A friend told me she had never heard of taking it on an as needed basis so I'm anxious to know if that's how you take it or the 2 drugs together at all times.
I take carbamazapine CR 200 mg twice a day.

I'm on neurontin also; I'm now taking 1200mg and it has really helped; I may back it down to 900 but when I'm on 900 I still have pain when I eat but not really bad. I guess I just have to weigh the difference....a little pain or a little more spacey.

My neurolisgist told me it takes a while to work, and that it has to be taken every day and not to stop taking it or I could have withdrw symptons. I was told that you had to lower the does slowly.
