Trigeminal Neuralgia Support Group
Trigeminal neuralgia, or Tic Douloureux, is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw. Trigeminal neuralgia is considered by many to be among the most painful of conditions.
Yes, I have terrible memory problems since I started taking the tegretol. In fact I, and Mike too, call it forgetitall.
My balance and sometimes my vision are effected too. Fell Sunday just stepping into a canoe!
I also get really flustered just having conversations w/ people because I can't recall words or thoughts. My neurologist said this would be a problem. If I had to work I would hide in a corner somewhere ;o)
I just tell people I am on medications that challenge my thought process and word recall and people will usually joke back with me like yesterday a woman said to me , "well, I used to have a brain and then I had kids". I thought that was funny.
I wonder if there are drugs that don't have this effect.
I would think, though, that caring for someone with Alzheimer's would be incredibly stressful. I did it for a week, and it was a huge stretch for me. I'm normally a pretty competent person too.
I try go on the computer alot and do all these brain testes and IQ just to keep my mind going.
At least now I know I am not the only one that has a slow brain. As long as I find my way home I am okay. That would be a laugh.
When I first came back to work and just really hated not being able to remember things and now I'm back at work, my boss said "I'm 52 years old and I forget things all the time". People just don't realize how almost devasting it is to you to wake up one morning and you can't remember anything. Your double checking on everything. I figure as long as I didn't burn down the house and I got my child to and from school I was good. lol
My kids just laugh at me.
Sometimes just too many things going on in our lives can just be too much for us and it really stresses us out.
I'm sorry you're feeling this way and I hope things improve for you.
Thankfully the memory thing seems to have improved as my body has adjusted to the meds but I'm still getting a lot of shock-like pains while eating and talking. Going back to the neurologist on Monday to see what can be done.
You are so right about the stress. Not only does my husband have Alzheimer's but also some new health problems so it is very hard. I am working on respite once we get all his physical problems sorted out.
Hopefully the TN will also settle down then.
