Hello
When I awake from sleeping my right ear is always sissssing extremely loud. The siss, is not the typical "ring" in my ear per say, but a hissing noise, only in my right ear.
The hissing lessens after I am up approximately an hour or so and then diminishes through out the day, leaving me with a different more tolerable tinnitus.
I have brought this symptom to your attention here in the past and done much research on the matter, however nobody appears to actually know the reason for this phenomena.
My ENT, stated I might hear the hiss after awakening due to it is quiet in the morning, which I know is not the case and I was upset that a specialist has no clue either to why my ear appears to hiss loud upon awakening.
I stated in my other post the other day, "Update on my tinnitus" My tinnitus appeared to be at bay the past few months.
The reason possibly being, I was tending to a very stressful situation caring for my elderly mother day after day, so possibly just not noticing my tinnitus as much. In addition I was eating a bit more salt and sugar.
However, maybe my tinnitus was still existing no different than now, I truly wonder, so odd that I can't recall???? I have started to eliminate salt and sugar again, hoping it might help.
At any rate, the morning tinnitus that I am experiencing makes me feel almost "ill like", and I am finding it hard to get up and carry on with my day.
Unfortunately also the obsessing as to what is causing my tinnitus is again consuming my thoughts.
Any ideas as to why my one ear hisses loud upon awaking? Do any of you experience this as well?
Thanks for you input, it is appreciated.
Patty

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I can't address the worrying what is causing tinnitus as I don't worry about that. I don't think it's a great symptom of anything just damaged hair cells from age, medications or loud noise.

I can relate. My tinnitus used to be fairly quiet in the left ear except for some morse codes sounds in the right ear and the ring more in my left ear. I would get a reprieve where both ears would be low and I felt good. But lately I have been waking up with a hissing in both ears and believe its coming from my head and not just ears. I wake up with this and its been continuous throughout the day. Its been going on about 4 days and praying the change isnt permanent and that it goes back to what it used to do which was have a day or two of high hissing and sometimes it was in my ears and head to low days where it was just a minor ringing and that was that. I sometimes dont feel good with mine when its a hissing because it does feel like it bothers my head and it is hard to ignore it. I do know what you mean about not noticing the tinnitus when you were so busy and you cant recall it now. Distraction proves itself. When Im driving along in the car thinking about something very intently and then realize I didnt hear my tinnitus! I guess I have to stay so busy and distracted that I dont hear it so I will be the one running around like a chicken with my head cut off in order to be distracted do I dont hear it. LOL!
Just wanted you to know you aren't alone with the hissing stuff. But I have come to find out I had two mini strokes and have some vascular stuff going on and now wonder if this isnt vascular tinnitus Im going through. I see a neurovascular surgeon in a week or so to discuss my MRI findings and talk about this tinnitus and hissing in my head. Will post what I find out. Best Wishes! Judy
Hummmm, if T has something to do with sleep, I wonder what...brain chemicals changing maybe..??
I thought possibly posture too, but am a bit doubtful. Maybe I should try falling asleep in a chair sitting up and see. (Chuckle) Although it might not be a bad idea.
I guess either I will have to just except what is, and possibly at some point in time I might find out the reason.
My obsessing ongoing to know reason and rhyme of my T., is hard for me to overcome as you might notice.

@Susie..I check my BP every day. My doctor wanted me to so we could make sure its ok. So far, its very normal, so dont think anythings going on with it. Judy
I have tried almost everything including medications, visits to numerous ENT doctors. Whenever I think I found a cure, it only lasts a day. I thought it was a challenge at first, but no more. Still looking for a way to manage it.
