Something which can make Tinnitus worse.

Hi,
I thought I'd join and share my experience with Tinnitus with other people who may not be coping.
I have had Tinnitus since I was in my early teens and I have never seemed to be bothered by it.
My Mother and Father also has Tinnitus.
My Mother's Tinnitus was unexpected and made her very upset, but she has overcome the issue.
My Father's Tinnitus came from being in the war, so loud noises were the factor in this case.
The sounds I hear all come from my right ear.
They range from hissing to faint high pitched ringing.
But since I have had this issue for as long as I can remember it does not bother me and doesn't interfere with daily life.
MY THEORY:-
I believe a constant high pitched frequency can cause Tinnitus to flare up and make it louder because listening to this frequency makes your ear zone in on the whatever pitch your brain is ringing at.
So of course your brain already has that ringing so when the high frequency from whatever is making it has stopped, the sound carries on making an unwary potential Tinnitus sufferer quite alarmed.
WHAT WAS MY CULPRIT?:-
In my case the source was from a PC I had built.
There was an issue with the hardware causing the faint high pitch sound.
So in short constant electrical noise.
So once I had remove that piece of hardware, the Tinnitus reduced to the typical very faint white noise like hissing I hear.
Hope this gives some insight to people out there who may find thier Tinnitus has flared up unexpectedly.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

When my Mother first noticed the ringing, she would sleep anywhere in the house where there were similar noises.
Mainly in the kitchen since the fridge and freezer made a noise which overpowered the sound in her brain.
I read about the avg percentage of people who have Tinnitus is about 20% in the US and where I live NZ. Although I beg to differ and believe it is far more than what is stated.
LOTS of my friends have ringing in thier ears only if you ask them.
I can sit and make different noises come up.
Ranging from the high pitch noise to the hissing and cricket like noise.
I can make the high pitch stop.
I now literally have to make the high pitch sound come up.
I can completely make the hissing go away though but then again that one is very faint.
Unfortuantely I can't tell you how I do it which is really frustrating since I see from your posts you are suffering from the sound.
If you don't mind me asking how long have you had Tinnitus?
Nothing lost

I believe mine is from loud music first off but somehow the frequency which was coming from my PC flared it up.
Also the PC happens to be on my right hand side which was where I was hearing the ringing.
What sort of sound do you hear?
Is it the hissing, a super high pitch noise or the one pitch which just keeps on going.
bye

I can make a high pitched sound in both ears by two ways.
But I think everyone can do this regardless of Tinnitus or not.
I may not be a doctor but I'm not stupid and I think this ringing test below is to do with blood flow.
1:-Opening your mouth then tensing the muscles on one side of the jaw at a time.
You will hear a high pitch sound coming from the side which you tensed the jaw on.
BTW this can be difficult to do.
2:Sit down, tilt your head, place your hand on the side of your head above the ear then push towards your hand and make your hand push back.
This will make the same ringing sound.
I believe many things can cause Tinnitus as there are many different types of noises which go along with it.
I'm also starting to believe Tinnitus maybe a learnt issue which has to be unlearnt some how. . . .
As research has so far stated, it's apparently the brain rewiring from a damaged ear.
Although I'm a bit skeptic, you would think the brain would do a better job.
How can I make a high pitch frequency and stop it just by thinking?
Also since I believe since I can somehow bring back the high pitch noise again and to either ear I think once you had Tinnitus you can always make it comeback.
If you have been able to make it stop that is.
Ask i said before all my friends hear noises when it's quiet.
They're just not bothered by it.
From Wiki:-
Heller and Bergman (1953) conducted a study of 80 tinnitus-free university students placed in an anechoic chamber and found that 93% reported hearing a buzzing, pulsing or whistling sound.
Yes I'm really starting to believe it's how tuned, focused, zoned in you are to the sounds for whatever reasons.

I can open my mouth, tense my jaws, and the ringing gets louder. Is this maybe a clue?
I'm not a religous man by any means but I'll pray a bit for you since thats a rough situation.
I'm going to try and figure out more about this Tinnitus thing and the certain things which cause it to flare up.
I think I'll have a talk to my GP to get his perspective on the subject on Monday.
@precious
Hope this distractor gives you relief for the Tinnitus, at least a temporary one.
A knock on the head when younger, an ear infection at 12, a sinus infection at 23, exposure to loud music when younger, antibiotics, a bacterial infection, ototxic meds, stress... all these things can contribute to tinnitus. Then one day, that one event (a loud sound, an ilness whatever) triggers the tinnitus and the patient assumes "that" was the cause.
I understand Alabama isn't exactly a hotbed for forward thinkers, but even the oldest (60yrs +) doctors are cognizant of the fact we need to explore any avenue we can as tinnitus suffers.
SpecialFX you have some good thought there regarding PC noise. I chunked my first computer for that very reason. I built a little MicroATX "silent" PC. What do you use now?
