This drug does have side effects. I think you've been lucky so far. And all drugs do some internal harm whether you feel it or not... and whether it's on the label or not. Drugs are big money from the pharmaceutical companies to the doctors, all the way to the local pharmacist. I've had insomnia since I was a little kid. I've tried everything. It's gotten worse in the 3 years that I've had Pulsatile Tinnitus... but I would never take anything to sleep... even when my EX doctor started using my tinnitus-desperation to start throwing every drug in the book at me until I eventually told him where to put his prescription pad. The sad reality is that we have to learn to live with this noise... and we need to do so WITHOUT going broke while simultaneously making these jack @$$ed doctors rich. You know... I actually had on "specialist" try to sell me on some herbs. He told me that I had to buy a year's supply because it took a year to find out if it was gonna work or not. Dr. Luke Burke in Houston Texas!!! These dudes TOTALLY take advantage of tinnitus desperation. F- that! You can get past this. Get a noise maker and a fan and put it next to the bed. You'll be fine.

Hi Everyone, I wanted to update you on what has happened since I was given the drug Pramiprexole about a month ago for tinnitus. The drug did not have any effect on my tinnitus, and after taking it for 2 weeks I noticed my left ankle and foot started to swell to the point I can hardly walk. I went back to my doctor, but all he did was to refer me to another doctor, which my appointment is still 2 weeks away. I saw on the internet that this drug can cause edema (swelling) so I quit taking it and this was about a week and a half ago. I was told that the swelling should disappear in a week, after I stopped taking the drug,by a phamacist, but it has'nt it is worse. I had doubts about using any medicine because that is what caused my tinnitus, but wanting releif so bad I put aside those doubts. I am afraid I have made my situation worse because now besides the hell I live with due to the tinnitus, I can hardly walk. Its so sad that there is no real treatment or cure for this condition, and we sufferso much because of it. I do not trust doctors anymore and am worried now, afraid to think of the future. Has anyone else who has or taken pramiprexole had anything like this happen to them? If so please post. Thank you.

Gee i'm afraid to say something positive about drugs that I might get my head ripped off. I take 3 drugs. I take Ziac for high blood pressure and it's kept my blood pressure normal now for over 10 years. Cost: $5 a month.
I take Amitriptyline for 12 years now to help with my sleep. Cost:$5 a month.
Finally have been taking the drug Pramipexole for almost 2 months now and it's taken me from being suicidal to a point where my tinnitus is lower and by far more tolerable. Cost:$5 a month. So there are some good things to say about drugs.

When I need medicine (not related to my T because I don't take anything for my T), but when I need medicine, my prescriptions also cost 5 dollars... Now ask me how much my insurance premiums are every week. And those who are on goverment assistance medicare medicaid also pay 5 dollar for prescriptions... Now ask me how much the tax payers pay. One implication of your post seems to be "How can anyone get rich if I only pay 5 bucks?" The answer to that is insurance premiums and tax payer dollar. The pharmaceutical industry made approximately 320-330 BILLION dollars in 2011.

As for the meds helping you... I think that's great. Tinnitus absolutely sucks. If you've found something that works for you, more power to you. But the unfortunate truth is... Meds don't help the majority of tinnitus sufferers and doctors DO take advantage of out tinnitus-desperation. I'm glad you are the exception to the rule, but I stand by my post.

No post is wrong. We are all entitled to do what is best for us and share our experiences. What works for one doesnt always work for one another and most of us know that. DGN I understand. NoLonger, I understand as well. As for me, Im just living with it after 2.5 yrs. I felt like I was in a hamster wheel chasing meds and remedies and finally decided to stop doing that, but that is just for me. I have more peace accepting it, living with it, than chasing things. That caused me too much stress. Tinnitus can make you afraid of meds because you wonder if it will cause tinnitus as a side effect and/or make it worse and makes you question every medication you ever take. If I dont need a med to function, such as my thyroid med or my taking a blood thinner because Ive had a mini stroke, then I dont take it. I have found my middle ground. I have tried 10 to 15 different things, in the last year and half, since my T came back on me.

I think that the hardest part, which makes you depressed, is that I feel like a dog chasing his tail, and never catching it.

I told my girlfriend, that I am running out of ideas, and I now need to deal with the reality, of the whole thing.

Read that "transient anxiety" can be a side effect... my anxiety has been quite up lately (I am already on Klonopin and don't want to up the dosage).

Did anyone take it notice an increase in their or appearance of anxiety?

It says "transient anxiety", meaning it has a small possibility of making you anxious as you adjust to it... I doubt you will have any anxiety problems with it... Please keep us informed as to how it works for you... Ok??.. bob

No anxiety here. For me it just makes me feel better. Most of that comes from the lower tinnitus volume.

Quid, I had no anxiety on it either. Like Delta, my anxiety was LESS because the T was quieter. I started on .25mg a day and went up to .675 a day.
