does the doc prescribe it for tinnitus or do you have to ask for it for something else?

p.s. congrats, very happy for you. i can see a light at my own tunnel as I sit here with a fan going, rain machine and some pillow speaker thing. it's like a three ring circus.

I showed my doctor a study that showed the drug Pramipexole did help some people with tinnitus. He agreed to let me try it for a month and see if it would help. For me it's working at the .25mg 3x per day dose.

Yesterday zero tinnitus and now today my ear is ringing but at a much lower volume and irritating pitch. I will try to find the study and post a link here so you can read it. Not sure how to do that so maybe someone on here could find it and post it.

I bumped up the thread about the Pramipexole/Tinnitus study.Click on it and BobsDream first post has the link.This is what I printed off and showed my doctor. He said it's a pretty safe drug so he let me try it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I'll see what my doctor says about it. I am just having a hard time habituating. I've had shrill-like T now for 7 years. I can't really remember what it was like not to have it. Glad you are finding relief.

Hi this question is for Bobsdreams, Delta and anyone else taking pramipexole. I went to my doctor a month ago, and he gave me a prescription for pramipexole ( He gave it to me for the tinnitus after I talked to him about the study that was posted about on this site). I take.5mg every night before bed. Unfortunately, I have not been as lucky as some of you. It has not helped my tinnitus at all. Do you think its because of the dosage is to low? What other meds do you take for your tinnitus and what is the dosage? What are your thoughts? I am so desparate for some releif . Please post any comments. Thanks

Buzz, the study said it helped lower T for people who took it at levels given to Parkinson's patients--that is 2mg/day. If your doctor lets you, I would try to increase it gradually.

Have you tried Trileptal? One of the complaints people had about it who take it for seizures was that it lowered their pitch perception (as in when they tried to play music, the notes sounded lower than they were). Anecdotally, people with T have noticed it made the pitch of their T seem not so high. This has been true for me. Mine is still high, but not quite as high as without Trileptal. (My T was measured at about 10,500hz.) I take 300mg of Trileptal before bed daily.

McMurdo, thank you so much for replying. I can't remember, do you take primipexole too and if so what dose? If so are those the only med's you take for tinnitus? Does the Trileptal & Primipexole (if you take that) do anything for your tinnitus?

I would up the dosage but only to a safe level. It may or may not help but at least you wont have to wonder about it anymore. I don't think anyone can really say what the proper dosage is for T. Work with your doctor and keep it safe.

I'm currently at 1- .25mg pill 3x per day. Getting benefits at this dose. I can go up to 3- .25mg pills 3x per day.

I am no longer on the Prami due to some side effects but at one point I was up tpo .675/day Prami and 1600mg Trilep. I now only take 300mg/day Trlepi (no Prami0 and it seems to give me about 5 good days (low volume T0 per week.
