I have learned if I keep busy, I can sometimes "block" the noise! Just don't concentrate on it so much...of course, nights are worse when there is no noise! When it is really bad, I do self-hypnosis. That has been a lifesaver for me because I have spells of highly increased sound...siren blaring, firecrackers popping and jet airplanes!! Maskers and other things have no effect, because the ear I have tinnitus in is one that I have no hearing at all! Go figure!! And definitely Prayer!!

Daytimes I agree, if I keep busy, it can be not too bad, as long as I do not focus. Nightimes I have to imagine I am at the edge of a jungle, near a huge waterfall and all the jungle birds are making a noise - daft I know, but it works for me.

Oh, and a large glass of wine helps too LOL

Well, it worked last night. But this morning, I have been up for hours. The noise in my head today is b.............awful I cant stand it and just want it to gooooooooooo away, why does this happen some days. Thinking about it..............I ate prawns last night in a stir fry, then I went up to my dads later and he was eating a chinese meal and I ate the spare ribs, the ones cooked in lots of seasoning and salt - I just love the taste and know I shouldnt have the salt. I know it affects the menieures - do you think it effects the tinnitus too, salt I mean. I think I am going to go mad today if this noise doesnt stop. I have been working on the computer since early.

Don't know about the salt...never thought about that. When I first started with the tinnitus, I usually had my extra loud spells after being somewhere noisy. I then started having spells where I would just be sitting there and it would start. Will have to be a little more observant and see if there is any correlation.

u bet ur sanity salt raises "T"....the V.A. has me on 500mg of salt a day[total in foods&drinks]-of course i can't do that............vit. A also will raise the ceilin on "T".....and i mean the A in foods& juice,not just the pill...........see ur Doc before u crash the salt&A.......ty golf-u will get so mad u won't hear the "T" untill later at home when u think bout ur score!!!

Pardon my ignorance, ... what is A. I like my coffee and salted sunflower seeds and my T rages all the same. If A is alcholol, a bit of beer helps me forget my T, not enrage it. Mostly, I don't know what I'm talking about but that doesn't stop me. I can't sing but I sing anyway. I used to play golf - loved it and hated it all the same.

Hi.. I have had tinnitis for years. I agree with others above.. keep busy, dont concentrait on the ringing, keep tv, fan, radio, ac, whatever running for back noise. When they get bad ringing, thats when I work or just get busy at something that makes me concentrait hard. No cure, no miracle medicine... just have to learn to deal with it. sux, I know.. but what do you do??! Good luck!

oops.. I have it in both ears and hard of hearing in both ears too.. All from this constant loud ringing. Tone changes and sometimes louder than others.

What helped me the most was going on a CRUISE! However now that I'm off the boat, the noise has become louder but prob just noticable again:( I just long for some QUIET but don't want to go deaf as I also am losing my hearing. The hearing aid makes the tinnitus worse. Oh well, I just grin and bear it tho have been trying to figure out what increases it too- Mine seems to be from movement yet is bad at night too?
I admire anyone who's had to cope with this for a long time...

It's funny you should say these things. I almost prefer having my aids out with silence. The tinnitus is most tolerable this way, which is still not tolerable. All background noise, like a tv, radio, are disorted. My tinnitus is like a stone being tossed into a pond. Each wave it produces is like a sound, and it takes awhile for the wave to stop from that sound. In the meantime, thousands of other sounds have created these ringing waves, so you can see the pattern it produces. If I sleep with a fan, the ringing is even worse when I awaken. If I sleep more than 5 hours or so, the ringing is terrible. If I vist a friend in Chicago, it takes days for the ringing to clam down from the car noise.
Pray to the guy that gave this to me?
I don't mean to sound so neagative, but this is how my has been for 14 years, if you want to call it life.

I am tormented greatly by this high pitch eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee that the human ear should not hear but I constantly hear. What is worse is learning about those with hearing loss who experience this simular condition. What is worse is browsing this site and reading up on conditions I do not have but may someday have.
Tony Dungee is a pro football coach who's son commited suicide. His son was young - in his later teens or very early twenties. In the words that Tony Dungee spoke after his sons passing he said he was in terrible grief for the loss of his son, but he was thankful to God for the years that his son was with him. I am not so sure I would have the same response if something simular would happen to me, but I'm working at it.
Yes, I do pray to Him who gave me this condition or allowed this affliction to weigh so heavily on me. In confession, I have had moments of anger at Him who gave me this torment but ultimately my will will not be done but His will.
Tony Dungee also added he believes he will one day be reunited with his son. Even if he is wrong, (which I do not believe he is) isn't his the better mind set? There is a child in our neighborhood with cerebial palsy. Most of the time I see him he is in a wheel chair and smiling. - ... not there yet but let's (please) keep trying.

Interesting isnt it how different things help. For me having my hearing aid in helps - and I love noise around me! Just as well I am an infant school teacher - so noise rules the day - and music too. The noise for me is appalling when i am in the quiet, like at night or when I am in a quiet place on my own. It seems we all have to find the right thing for us. :)
