I am so so sorry. I hope by now you are in bed. I had one thought. Have they called in an infectious diseases specialist? Or is this appropriate?
Please know that everybody is in my prayers. And bless you and Blair's girlfriend for staying with him.
Know that i support you, hug you and love you. Take good care of you.

I am so sorry all of you are having this to go through. You have probably been running on spouts of adrenaline and you need to replenish with alot of fluids. Gatoraid is a good one to drink. If you don't have any juice get some while you are out tomorrow. Tonight know that your son is being taken care of and take care of yourself and rest. If you don't do this you won't be much good for him. True?
I have a friend who went through the same thing your son did. The hospital (veterans) told him to go home when he was throwing up blood, he had a ruptured appendix. Two days later he went back and his body was so full of infection that after the surgery they put drain tubes in him and got 6 quarts of green infectious fluids from his body. He was a very sick man. He was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks just to clean the infection out. Once it was out it took him awhile to recover, but he's back to his usual self today. He's 80 yrs old.
I tell you this so you know the truth of it and you know the hope of it. He will get better. It is a slow process but a necessary one. It's important that you get your rest now so you can help him when he doesn't have that hospital care.
If you have any questions please ask me.
Prayers for all,
Toni
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Blair. may god speed his recovery.
Blair is very ill. I saw many people like that while I was a hospital social worker. It will be steps forward and back for another week or two. He is a strong young man with much support. He will get better.
Your sons' girlfriend is doing a miraculous job and, I hope she is getting strength from you as well as giving it to you. You and her should rely on eachother and take care of yourself too so you both can be there for Blair.
Please keep us updated and, I will keep your son in my prayers.
HUGS

The nurses are your best source of info. They are the ones who save lives in hospital.
I would get to know them. Take them cookies. A card saying thanks for caring for your son so well.
Hang in there. May I ask my church choir for prayers for your son?
I had to work this morning and hated the idea of not being able to go see him, but I finally got through and spoke with him. He was feeling better and had his favorite nurse today. She is extraordinary!
I spoke to him again around noon and he said that if he can start keeping fluids down and his fever no higher than 99, it's possible he'd be sent home tomorrow. The doc told him it's not written in stone, for sure. He didn't meet any of that criteria yesterday.
I had planned to go down after work, but I was hurting quite a it from going back to work so I tried to rest for a bit and got up a half hour later to find a heck of snowstorm going on!
So...I called him again and he said for me to stay home. Amy and another friend were with him and that I houldn'ttry to drive in this weather. Sweet boy.
He hadn't vomited yet, but he was having a lot of pain after trying to eat a few spoonfuls of jello. I'll check again to see if he kept it down. How can think about releasing a patient who still has a tube coming out of his abdomen, filling with bloody fluid every da?. And...he's still on IV antibiotics and Dilaudid!
I am ridiculously tired and uncomfortable after working a half day. I feel guilty for even admitting that with the way my son feels.
Please hold down the fort and keep us updated. HUGS to you!
