I would keep him in the hospital for at least another 4 days. It is so easy to go downhill. Nurses will notice a downward trend very fast and correct before it becomes serious. We regular people just don't have that experience.

I am sure he wants to be home. You can ask him to rise from the bed while it is flat and see if he can get up.
After my hernia surgery, the worst was trying to lay down and get up again. I nearly peed in the bed trying to get up. Hubby went downstairs so he "would not wake me" but I could not scream for him and could not get outta bed. Cell was in the bathroom - nice place for it - really useful in the bath.

I had a similar situation with a kidney stone surrounded by an abscess. I was sent home with meds for an UTI but was rushed back when my primary did a CT and saw what was really going on. They put a drain in and the infection escaped and I spent 11 days in the hospital before the infection was under control. Your son is young so I am sure he is strong enough to beat this. I'm just sorry you have to go through all the worry. He is in my thoughts and my hopes for a speedy recovery.

My son was released this afternoon and though exhausted, he's glad to be back at his place. He said it was a slow climb to his third floor apartment. His girlfriend is going to love taking care of him at home and the rest of us will be checking on him while she's at work.

Fingers crossed that he doesn't develop an abscess. That's what he's supposed to watch for, now.

Cherry....I was off the board yesterday, no Internet. I see your son is home and like the others I'm praying for a speedy recovery. I'm worried about his release when he's still not eating real food and such but I'm sure he's glad to be home. A hospital is not a place to get any rest! Damn nurses and lab techs coming in at all hours:-)
