My son was 4mo and 25 days old when he passed away while nursing on 1/28/11. He was getting over the N1H1 virus but was doing so much better the days before. I dont understand..... the autopsy results arent back yet and I feel so lost. Any words of advice while trying to cope would be great. I feel like I'm in a state of shock and just want to wake up from this nightmare!!!

I'm so sorry for your loss. We all understand yuor pain and what you are going through. We are here for you. I live in CT and we had a detective come to our house 2 days after our son Sean died (SIDS) to tell us that the ME confirmed it was SIDS. We didn't get the actual autopsy paperwork for a good 2 months. I hope you get your answers soon. Just take one day at a time, one minute at a time sometimes. Grieve as long as you need to grieve. It has gotten a bit easier for me, the pain isn't so raw. Sean has been gone for 8 months now. You are exactly right, it does feel like a nightmare. I'll be praying for you. Big hugs!

I talked to the medical examiner on monday. She told me that Elijahs death is most likely going to be labeled unexpected death. She said there are a lot of contributing factors and they are still waiting on tests to come back. I guess the fluid in his lungs could be postmortem and she needs to look at it under a microscope. The pathologist said they found the H1N1 virus in every area they sampled including his brain so thats the greatest contributing factor. She said she has to list unsafe sleeping because he was nursing and I fell asleep with him, his prematurity at birth, and overheating are all contributing factors. I had him in the ER days before that when they first dx the H1N1 and both the medical examiner and pathologist said he should have been admitted. But from what I'm hearing is he probly wouldnt have survived either way because the virus took over his body and he wasnt able to fight it and there is no "cure" for H1N1 just ways to help the symptoms. I feel better having some answers but dont understand why they didnt try admitting him when he was in the ER with dx H1N1. I am happy he was in my arms and not in the hospital on life support when he passed. I feel like a cloud has been lifted a bit having some answers but have mixed emotions now.

knowing that my son is in heaven right now bouncing on those big fluffy clouds has made my last four years manageable. I am so glad that you have started looking for support so soon after your sweet baby passed. I waited until know to really reach out and get help and i regret not doing it sooner like you have. you already have taken the first step to getting your head on straight and i am so happy for you for that. your little one would be so proud of you knowing that you are as strong as you are even though you may not feel it yet. keep talking about your pain! do no bottle up like i did. i struggled with depression for two years because i was so stubborn.

So sorry for you loss. Just take a day at a time. It gets easier but you will always miss your little angel and think of him all the time. It's been over three years since I loss my grandson and not a day goes by that I don't think of him and miss him so much. I babysat him everyday after I worked until my daughter got home from work so I was more like a second mom to him than a grandma. Glad you found this website. It's been my greatest help. Hugs.
