I had one when I was 28 & another when I was 42. Still have some general weakness on that side & some drooping in that side of my face still. Theripy was the best thing for me I had PT 3 times a week. I can relate to how you are feeling. Most people know about the bigger strokes but have no clue what a TIA is.

TIA=Trans Ischemic Attack thats what the doctors call a (LOL) mini-stroke. Have had multiple TIAs before, Drs dont know when they ocurred you can have them and not even know you've had them even pass them off as a bad headache. The only way to be certain is for a CT?MRI dark portions of your brain are dead portions, no longer getting blood flow. TIA can be just as damaging as a full blown stroke for the mental/emotional aftereffects that occur both in TIA/Stroke. Drs can't address the mental/emotional except with hamsfisted pharmacological attempts to cure. Depression, suicidal ideation, personality changes can be just some of the changes that may lie in wait. IN another post of yours you announced that this is a game changer for you, be aware that it may also be a world view changer for you it doesn't look like the same place nor will others look at you the same way. Don't mean to scare you, but these are some of the things that the Docs are reluctant to talk about since they can't "cure" these aspects of TIA/STROKE.

I had a TIA a year ago and my speech is still affected. I bent over to take of my shoes in the evening, I felt something strange, no pain, but when I sat up, I could not speak. After a few minutes I could talk, but it was all garbled. Very scary. My husband called an ambulance, I was in the er for a few hrs and released with blood thinner and instructions to see my cardio dr in the morning. I have AFib and was on aspirin at the time, but now on warfarin.

If I am in a conversation and don't take the time to speak slowly, I catch myself fumbling over a word. I also have a hard time reading aloud.

Yes I had a TIA I just turned 40, and while on vacation in the Caribbean March 1-5 I had my first TIA, unknown to me what it was tho. I temporaraily lost vision in my right eye and just wrote if off to needing to see the eye dr when i got back home.
I got home March 7th and had a major PE in my right lung, heart palpitations and the works. I was in the hospital for several days with the PE, and the TIA's kept happening til I finally went to see my eye dr to get a new glasses presription. He said I was having TIA's, I had never heard that word, had no clue what he was saying and I called my BF for help. He came to the eye dr hurried me to the best eye surgeon in the state and within hours found out the TIA's were a fancy way of saying "Mini- Strokes" My father had 100's of mini strokes before he had several Major Strokes and died from them.
I am fine now, still lose my vision on occassion and cry my way thru it. My BF is the best in the world so I am lucky there. I am on Coumadin now for the blood clots and PE's I had clots in my eyes that is what caused the TIA's. Meechelle

And I thought that I was very affected...seems that I got away with quite a lot...compared to some...you get a major alteration in the way you perceive the world around you when something like this happens...obviously it is much better if you have folks around you that support you emotionally and can stay with you during the highs and lows of the day to day...I find that the psychological aspects of this are at least as equally troubling as the physical aspects if not more so,,,at least for me anyway..

I had a TIA 8 days ago, I'm only 34 and still am coming to terms with it. It was caused by my heart which has a hole in it that was only just discovered at hospital. I feel OK however I am so concerned about my dizzyness, can anyone tell me how long they felt dizzy for to give me a rough idea on what to expect the Doctors dont seem to tell me much????.

I am sorry to hear of your T I A ..mine came on about a year ago at this time while at work....everyone thought at the time it was a heart attack..but to me it didn't feel like a heart attack.. there was something neurological going on ..and it took 2 hospitla admission to finally get it right..after they did a CT and MRI the second time round.....the affect was to slow me down some and I had some ongoing stomach disorder and some dizziness, lightheadedness, and headaches...there was a psychological aspect to this which no one told me about ,,,that was increased depresseion and some anxiety...but I guess a lot of that has to do with what you were working with prior to this epsode...I continue with my hypertension meds and for a short time Aggrenox but my stomach problem were impacted by this medication...I am now on aspirin ,,I was told the Plavix is a good substitute though I cannot do this due to non-insurance issues,,,read up as i imagine you have done on
T I A's ...and just watch your diet.. I would imagine that you have hypertension (high B/P) as well,,

I think TIA needs it's own support group, and mycroftt has attempted to do just that. I have so many questions and none of them relate to the "traditional" "regular" stroke. I think TIA is common enough and certainly different enough to have its own group. So I'm encouraging those discussing TIA to join http://www.dailystrength.org/groups/tia-support

Hello...Iam 45 years old and had my first mini-stroke in Oct. 2010. I had a second one a few weeks ago. Is there any doctors who specialize in this? Will I suffer minis until I suffer a major? What is going on with me? Will I just stroke out? So many questions......Do any of you have answers? Hi, I had a Stroke when i was 21yrs old... I lost the use of my left side and after 18mths of rehab i pretty much got back to normal. I am now 27 and had a TIA about 3mths ago.... Im on clexane injections daily to thin my blood and hopefully prevent having more...
