Stroke Support Group
A stroke is an acute neurologic injury where the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a clot in the artery or if the artery bursts. The brain perfused by that artery no longer receiving oxygen carried by the blood and dying with cessation of function from that part of the brain.
I have a 3-4 mm outpouching on the internal carotid artery high up in the cavernous sinus area. It indicates aneurysm and two TIA's. This diagnosis came through a neurologist and I have also booked an appt. with a neurovascular surgeon to do a CT Angiogram (with contrast) to see if the artery wall is thin or not, or if this is just a structural defect and not an aneurysm. I had no symptoms that I can recall of a TIA because I am in menopause and all my symptoms melt together so I cant distinguish the time frame. I remember having a lot of fatigue a few months ago but thought this was normal in menopause as again menopause can cause fatigue. I have had headaches throughout my life in general and so if I had a headache I would have not attributed it to a TIA probably. I dont even know how Im supposed to feel after a TIA. I feel some cognitive impairment like I cant concentrate and focus but that is a general complaint in menopause as well so its all confusing to me. Its hard to accept having a TIA and makes me feel like Ive crossed over to another dimension. Definitely no longer "young" but only 52. I dont feel old but a TIA makes me think older. It also makes you look at your mortality. I just want to live my life and if its my time its my time. Im joining a gym for exercise, see a dietician today to help me eat better, Im on aspirin regiment, seeing a neurovascular surgeon, what else is there to do? Best Wishes to everyone and hoping we all can move past our TIA's :) Judy
