I think TIA needs it's own support group, and mycroftt has attempted to do just that. I have so many questions and none of them relate to the "traditional" "regular" stroke. I think TIA is common enough and certainly different enough to have its own group. So I'm encouraging those discussing TIA to join http://www.dailystrength.org/groups/tia-support

Hey there, I hope that you are feeling much better about things since April. I had a TIA about 6 weeks ago and I am struggling with the feeling of anxiety and dread. Every little twinge causes feelings of panic. I don't feel that my family understands, I know they just want to forget about it and when I am just upset and crying for no apparent reason they don't get it and I understand that. I feel very alone, except for the knowledge that God is with me, which I remind myself of everyday. Right now, I don't have any energy, I don't want to do the things I did before and have just let things go in my house, just want to feel normal again. Thanks for listening and for being here.

What happened when you had the TIA ?? How was it identified ,,did you go into hospital,,,in my case I thought or my primary doctor thought it was a cardiac condition and after all kinds of tests and wrong diagnoses they did a ct scan and MRI and they came up with the TIA..I have a fairly long history of high B/P and hypertension...yeah the psychological parts of it can be pretty debilitating as well,,I lost my job over my condition,,, believe it or not ,,,though they attributed it to lack of ability to do my job as i had done in the past ,,I was very very angry,,,but got past it,,,

Had a TIA April 2010. Still not functioning normally. But what is normal anymore. Memory doesn't work right and speech gets messed up if I get stressed or have to hurry. Lost my job because of inability to function. People do not understand that I am not the same person anymore and expect me to function as I did before. Very frustrating.

There is a lot of stuff connected with having a TIA at ANY age,,, it can certainly be a game changer and can really screw things up IF YOU ALLOW IT TO,,,

I am interested that someone has symptoms beyond 24 hrs, as I thought that was how TIA was diagnosed -- no permanent damage. My husband has had TIA diagnosed twice, but there was no positive test for it, they just ruled out everything else. I think he may actually have had TIA when he collapsed in an airport 2 years ago and became confused and disoriented, but then they said dehydration. He can still move his arms and legs, but he can't think straight, especially during the "attack" when he says he has a sense of impending doom and feels as if a curtain is coming down. He has had lots of memory problems, loss of fine motor control and poor visual depth of field since the "dehydration" episode. The neurologist says maybe alcohol related dementia, so he quit drinking but the symptoms remain. TIA isn't supposed to be like that.

The most definitive way a TIA is identified is by an MRI and/or a CT scan,,,that is how it was identified for me,,,I was 60yrs old and had a hx of high B/P controlled by medication apparently not control enough I guess ,,,mostly my fault actually,,,anyway,, it happened while a work one day and everything shifted focus and accompanied by a hard ringing ,,,it passed,,my doctor had a cardiac work up done on me,,,thinking it was a cardiac problem,,later they pinned it with an MRI,,I have full mobility,,though sometimes I am out of it not feeling so well with headaches, etc,,, it is the way of things I guess,,I am more attentive and stable on my B/P meds though,,,

My neurologist diagnosed me with one, even though all the test came back normal. I had an MRI, EKG, Cat scan. Now they want to run a TEE, sort of a fancy MRI but the tube goes down the esophagus. My doctor, not the neurologist, believes it may have been a hemiplegic migrane. I have a history of migranes, and the symptoms are exactly like that of a TIA. I wonder how many of us actually had a migrane, but was diagnosed with the TIA.

At any rate I want the TIA off my medical records. How will I get insurance if I ever need to get private insurance? Which brings me to this question: Can you even get insurance if you've had a TIA?

That is a problem,,,the insurance companys will red flag you,,and your coverage will be difficult if impossible to get ,,,,I had a history of hypertension and that alone wasn't enough to get me written off,,,the TIA was ,,,and ultimately (though I can't prove it_) was the reason I was terminated from a postion I had for about 3 yrs..of course they stated something really out of left field that was something that stood in their favor if they wanted me gone ,,,

Anyway...there is a program called PCIP run by the Feds for pre-existing condtions,,,for full insurance coverage ,,premiums are set for each individual State...,,go to PCIP.GOV.

without appropriate testing you need to be wary of a doctor giving a TIA diagnosis..even my own Primary is sceptical and says people do not fully understand the nature of TIA's...

I just had a series of TIAs last week. CT/MRI/TEE taken, and awaiting results of TEE. Sense of smell got screwed up. Everything tastes like cardboard.

I would be interested in others' experiences.

Actually the PCIP program for pre-existing coverage from the government IS A JOKE AND A GREAT FRAUD,,,I touted that program hard but it really only makes conditions worse not better and this is the reason why,,,I am 62 so I am at the top end of the bracket for premiums,,I pay $376 pm,,now if it stopped there I could live with that ,,,BUT IT DOESN'T ,,in order (as i learned afterward) for the insurance to kick in you have to meet a yearly deductable of 2 grand,,you get NO COVERAGE FOR ANY SERVICES until that $2000 is met for the exception of standard doctor visits for a check up which is a co-pay (no big deal) but ANY work or testing has to come fully out of pocket ,,,mind you ,,,I am still paying $376 on top of this a month,,I sent a letter to the PCIP administration,,"asking what do I get for my $376 per month ...NO RESPONSE !!"

This is highway robbery by the Feds,,who should know better ,,,
